I like the idea of 2 vans but then what is the point of having 2 if it means 1 won't get used (apart from the odd blast down the sea front)?
What about. Small caravan behind? I ave got a westy and still don't have enough space! I'm fed up with putting up and taking own awnings so we are looking for a caravan.
i guess your stuck M , can't sell , wrong to butcher a tt and you want more room , it has to be the awning option bud , what about a pop up gazebo ?.
In all seriousness, with us two, plus two dogs, plus trying for a family, Harvee may get a little cramped. Hence we're probably going to go down the tow hitch route, then tow a small trailer for bulky (but not overly heavy) bits and pieces behind us, if we can find one at a sensible price! Ideally, it's use the same bolt pattern, so one spare wheel for both the van and the trailer, kept in the trailer, or maybe on a purpose built front mount that doesn't attach to the nose itself, like this one on an early: The owner sent me his sketch plans for me to have a go with on a spare late front bumper.
In reality - would having a pop top really give you the extra space you need? Maybe it's time to get a LT35 ???
Take an awning, miles more room, miles cheaper and keeping the original shape of the van that you love
Do it Its your van it means a lot to you and if its not filling your needs make it so you can enjoy it. its not a rare museum van so you may find it also increases its value You can always put it back if you really want to.
I'm not convinced that a poptop will give you that much more room - floor space is still the same after all. You will have less bumps on your head, or you can use part of it as a loft I guess. Even though you don't want to take an awning, that's what I'd do - but get a small khyam so it's quick and easy. Seems a shame to chop up the van you know
This was our bus when we first bought it: After a couple of years of using it, I did this to it: It is the best thing we have done to our van. There is so much more room to just use the inside of the van, it's lighter, and I no longer feel cramped and claustrophobic. I realise it's not to everyone's taste, and some people prefer tintops, but it was what we decided to do at the time, and we don't regret it. By the time I got to the cutting a hole in the roof stage, we had fixed most of the problems we had with the van, and I wasn't prepared to start all over again with another one. This was cheaper too, it probably cost me a couple of hundred quid all in for the various bits I used.
