The best way to learn how to fix your bus is to buy an old wreck ...cheap of coarse , and do every single job on it you can do ...and learn as you go doing each job ....best way .
One of the things I love about the "campervan crowd" is that there's not all the snobbery about originality that you see with other marques. Go to a show like Skegvegas for example and there'll be every variation possible, from mint "originals" to custom interiors, paintwork, lowering, ratting, engines, bumpers, lhd, rhd, bellows roof, side roof, front hinge, rear hinge etc. Personally I love the variety, talking to owners about 1641's, 2044's scooby's and the rest of them. My bus in currently undergoing a winter makeover and it'll emerge with a custom interior, non standard wheels and a fully airbrushed paintjob covered in artwork! I'm sure I'll get some "tuts" but I don't care . Same as if I fitted a 6 litre Cummings diesel, it's my bus now Foxtrot Oscar
I enjoy laughing at people who think they're somehow "better" than me because they have what they perceive to be a stock bus. (Most if them have new interiors, seats, carbs, different engine etc etc)
Does it really matter, I couldn't give 2 tuppennys what engine you have it's your camper put a singer sowing machine engine in if you like, just drive it and enjoy it
The Truth all ways hurts, and it seems it is all ways talked about ...the first i was told about better buy T5 was before i bought my bay ...never stopped me . I suppose the biggest danger is once you have a T5 will you bother with the bay . However Caroline will never let me sell it . Dave is very comfortable with his .
But is a subaru a cost effective replacement for a type 1 and at a cost comparable with a type 4 engine. Originality has nowt to do with my question, nor historic vehicle status nor whether it might need and mot or not, nor whether other engines can be made to fit. Is it comparable with the cost of a type 4 or not?
