Unusual Mods

  1. Wasn't sure where to put this (I'm sure HailFrank will move it if necessary), how about a topic thread of Unusual Mods? Both practical and stupid improvements you've made or seen on buses. I'm always intrigued by the Trinket Trap in Volksworld so this is a bit like that.
    For starters here is my WOT (Wide Open Throttle) Mod;

Me and my expert friend noticed that we weren't getting WOT on the Solex no matter how much we fiddled with the throttle cable and pedal. This was exasperated when we fitted the 32/36 carb. Anyway thinking out of the box we fitted this short piece of metal at the pedal end thus increasing the throw of the cable (and making the pedal more responsive). Simple but works!
Lets hear about your mods (particularly the daft ones) like my mag-lite holder made out of copper pipe brackets (I always know where my torch is), and my remote control holder!

:hijack: ermmmmm anyway back on topic lol, unusual mods on my bus, my window washers don't squirt so i keep a trigger squirty bottle of water in the glove box and lean out the window and fire it at the screen.

I've got skateboard grip on my front bumper to help stop me slipping off it when strapping things to the roof rack.

  16. ooh I like the skateboard grip!!

  18. My bus's P.O. was in the process of replacing the long strips of headliner above the windows when I bought Buckminster.
Well he lost the rubber trim that holds it all in place. Then I figured out rope lights fit snugly where the trim goes and it was cheaper than new trim, so I covered the area with coordinating 70's fabric, tucked the lights in and Bob's yer uncle.
I used a hot glue gun, mostly. It developed a few sags later, so I touched those up with a stronger adhesive. Two dome-head bolts were in the track under the upper bed. I had to replace them with two flat-head bolts so the rope would lie flush.
They are not nearly as bright as my camera would have you believe. They cast a perfectly soft, even, pub-like lighting from front to back.
Another rope hangs in the side tent, extending the ambiance throughout.
Throw in good drinks and good music and all the best campers bumble into us eventually. ;)

They stay attached and move up and down with the top.

Mother of pearl beads help soften the glow.

The end runs down through the back of the three rear storage cubbyholes keeping them politely illuminated.

  19. Love the rope lights, I've got fairy lights at the mo but I've been looking at this stuff on flebay. I am inspired, how do I add karma again?

  20. What are fairy lights?
I should have mentioned, if you decide to install rope lights, look for L.E.D.s. Mine are not L.E.D. and they need too much power to run off the battery. L.E.D.s could run off the leisure battery and you can get them to change colors and swirl if you like. I'm not fond of the swirling lights, but they have some that turn a nice aqua or amber, among other shades.
Anyway, I wish I had them instead.
