  1. Their was an exhaust heat deflector tin/plate on these engines ? If so can you still get um ? Anyone got one or any pics of how they go ?

  2. If you get a picture, I might have one. Is it for you chum?So many bits I dont know whats what.

  3. yeh i cant seem to find them anywhere but im sure ive heard they had them , mine doesnt n cant find it if i google ?? maybe someone knows ?

  4. Heat deflector where? Never heard of such a thing.

  5. ok i was dreaming or miss read something maybe , i thought i read that they used to rot (unbelieveable :D i know ) n never got replaced but i have been known to drift off onto another planet  they were under bumper ?? above zorst ?? you should know so im wong in finkin

  6. @snotty Have a look in your 68>79 Bildkatalog Section 56 Item 13 retained on the underside of the late rear bumper by two spire screws. It appears to be a deflector of some sort? My bumper has the holes for the clips but I'm wondering if it was something later discontinued.

I think it may also be called a gravel guard o_O

I seem to remember someone out here got one from Bus Boys in the U.S.A.

  11. ya learn something new every day! i've only ever seen them on type 4 engines! (and they are rocking horse poo for them!)

  12. well im wondering if i can make sumat up in ali or sumat , if i could see one fitted might help ? @Majorhangover dave you need to get a rocking horse first :D

  13. I've never been able to find them. Apparently they rotted away really quickly and were one of those things that people couldn't be bothered to replace. You'd probably be as well to try and make one yourself - that diagram above gives the general design of them, I can't imagine that they are particularly complicated.

  14. yeh agreed ill have to have a look n see if i can see how they fixed under n go from their if i can find in england .

  15. If you look at the rear tin there are some holes that I think were for bolting onto the bit you're looking for. 2 on the left, one on the right.

  16. If it is the gravel guard, only ever heard of them on type 4s. Do they really do anything?

  17. cheers i just went out n had a look but its backed up to garage at mo so couldnt see , im gona go to local metal place n get some ali n see if i can make sumat up .

  18. It's a heat shield... It has a layer of asbestos between two sheets of tin

And they were fitted to type 1 engines - They were fitted to reduce the heat soak through the large rear tin, into the engine bay!! :)
