    So they say.
I figured malpassi would have the vibration aspect covered and mounted their smaller filter type top centre of the fan housing on my type-1.

On my type-4 it's on the engine tinware below the firewall.

Neither has caused any problem that I'm aware of.

A lot of people used to buy these then either quite reasonably assume the 1 to 5 scale represents psi (it doesn't represent anything as far as I could tell :) ) or tear their hairs out, I've never got one to work! I wonder if the caution has it's roots here. lol

    * it's notable that there is no scale on quality regulators, you must set them with a gauge.

Finally got around to removing the petrol tank after draining just shy of 20 litres of fuel. It came out a little easier than I was expecting. I guess it's been replaced at some point as it is in pretty good condition. More than can be said for the hoses!

I could really do without a sprained ankle though - it doesn't help getting underneath, and especially getting back out again :(
It's been over 3 weeks since I went over on it whilst out walking. My foot is no longer swollen like a balloon, but the tendon is still pretty tender

The only one if those that I have come across leaked like a leaky thing.

  5. Original steels can be picked up cheaply Mike
A lot of the time people end up scrapping them because nobody wants them.

Mike, I have a set down the workshop. You’d be welcome to one if you’re down my way anytime.

  7. The Petrol Kings do (or should) come with a bracket. Still got time to get one before Thurs (although they're getting bloody pricey ). Get ordering!

Yes, sad isn't it. The psychology of sales. It sells itself:
    Cheap - tick
    Shiny - tick
Numbers so no faffing with a gauge - tick.
They don't claim anything about it as far as I can see, it sells on the picture and hopeful assumption.

I once bought one... couldn't figure out how it didn't make any difference where I set the dial until I took it apart and could see that... it wouldn't and couldn't make any difference where I set the dial. It's a fuel equivalent of those double spark ht leads that are a canister in the king lead where the spark has to jump through two washers that rattle around inside. This one is a shiny canister prone to leaking with a dial that doesn't do anything.

IIRC connected up as per markings it could possibly be set to demand a MINIMUM pressure to open and other way round any pressure would just go around it without exerting any force on the mech, or it you adjusted it closed... no flow. It was 20 years ago.

  11. They haven't got a diaphragm in, like a proper regulator?

They have but it's like the spring is the wrong side of it. Maybe it was!

I must of been lucky I’ve had one for at least 5years and not had a problem I just set it up with a gauge and never had a issue with Icts over flowing

Wrapped some of that 'orrible itchy glass exhaust heat protector stuff around the bits of the exhaust that sit right close to the tinware.
Now my hands are all itchy.
Note to self: gloves gloves gloves!

Yes, it's still a steel pipe with not all its insulation wrapped round it. Hottish air goes in, mostly comes out the other end when its sucked in by the engine..
I would just find it some neoprene tape or similar or just leave it as it is.
