Well I tried to order some bits, but Custom and Commercial's web site really doesn't work well on an android phone. I couldn't find any way to actually check out

Oh, and the TLB discount code doesn't work

Started scraping underseal off, which was used to seal under (hmm clever name!).

Some creative welding has been done…badly. Worse than I thought. Imagine a patchwork blanket made of metal. Sir Lancelot had less pieces in his armour.

You tried vapour blasting? Comes up better than ‘like new’.

I use a convex mirror upright on the nearside so I can see not only the cars to the left but also the corner of the bus when I reverse into a parking space.

I did it after pushing a cyclist off at 5mph when they cycled up the left hand side...

A lot of junctions are marked with the short dashes meaning "different road" so they are allowed to go faster than you to the left. Just speed up to 65-70 and then they stop doing it...

Pertronix is just USA price uplift and marketing on the same old. Just buy four Accuspark or Powersparks for the same money. They all have about $5 worth of components in them..

  10. What do we think, cam gurus? There is a wear pattern (not actually that much) and some pitting. We're not aiming for perfect here.

    @77 Westy ? @zedders ?

Cams are cheap and I wouldn’t use it, and I wouldn’t use new (or resurfaced) followers on a used cam. New cam new followers. But it is only a Type 1, maybe won’t be used and you're not looking for perfection.:)

I'm not keen on the pitting.
    What were the followers like?
Type-1/type-4 are different, you get the odd wear pattern on type-4 almost as standard but it's there even if there is little to no actual wear. Yeah that sounds stupid I know. I don't think wear is so acceptable on a type-1 cam where the lobes are in contact with the followers right across the lobes. It was probably like that when it was fitted by vege though so the follower wear would be the clue?
Mr Westy will say bin it and he's normally right because he expects a lot more life out of his engines than my self destructing type of builds where something else will let go before this kind of thing becomes a problem.

You wouldn't but that's what I have and it's perfectly good. We could do this forever. :)

  14. Same here in my motor. No signs of valve-ular distress yet.

I do have a spare cam in better shape (only very light wear), but different tooth grind to the one above. I’ll do the “walk-out” test when my bearings arrive (not that anyone seems to bother with such things these days).

    Possibly due to the pitting?
You reckon Vege fussed over the cam gear? It's quite possible your other one turns out to be a better match!

  18. I know! No harm in trying it.
