Got him back from the welder this afternoon.

Solid as a rock and all rust in this area now eliminated.

The fake seam is the bottom section of the vertical one with grey primer. Pretty convincing to my eye.

Got to practice my filler / skimming skills now and see if I can blend it all in smoothly.

First thing he needs is a good wash but that will have to wait until the weekend.

Just glad to have him home.

  10. I have a special place in my own little version of Dante's Inferno for both the inventor and anyone who is daft enough to use one of these  .

it took over an hour to diagnose, find and remove the little blighter...

I now have a full set of working dash lamps.

  11. Scotchlok? My dad loved those, used them all over his T25 Westie California - until one day when it went up in flames while parked in front of the house. Insurance assessor reckoned electrical fault

  13. Yes, horrible things, if @snotty sees that we may have to up the dosage on his blood pressure pills tonight.

  14. They have their purposes. I have actually used some on the van. Don’t tell anyone.

That one was acting like a switch, horrible things! Tho, I agree, getting tools up inside the dash isn't the easiest.

  16. If you can get the pukka 3M ones, they’re better. I think a lot of folk don’t crimp them up properly. They have their place.

They're ok until you take them off leaving a damaged wire.

  18. For me they are items of last resort, it's surprising how electronics and connections etc and vibrations don't mix. My old Polo had some really interesting electrical dash faults, all down to a header flexing off the PCB under the weight of the ribbon cable and it's plug.
