  3. I didn’t do any special to be honest. The fit on the window is good I’m just not too happy about the width of the seal on the sliding door side. It doesn’t cover the lower window screws.

  4. Firstly ! I pulled off the Maypole cover to see if she was still there
Pulled out my massive bunch of keys and eventually located the correct key to the padlock for the rear drop down spare wheel mount, then and only then I opened the lid to expose the engine.
I reached in, disconnected the wires from my CTek feeding the leisure battery , connected my extended cables that enables the main battery to feed from the CTek charger.
Switched on the mains switch and checked the obvious, closed up the engine lid , put the cover back on and said good night Delilah

Started unpicking spot welds on the deformation panel bottom edge. Then realised all the metal was peeling up.. as the rusty bit behind gave way.
At least I only have to do a 30cm bit, so cut back to clean metal and started welding some small bits of metal back. Nearly out of welding gas so its off to BOC on Monday for another Y cylinder, and collect some sheet steel from the Metal Supermarket.

And to Hayling Island for some fence posts. Everybody west of Hayling seems to have run out for some reason..

Second coat of body colour on rear drop gate today..

It’s probably not an ideal temperature for painting but I warmed the rattle cans overnight in the airing cupboard to try and get a decent finish.

  12. changed rear bulbs to normal ones - charged battery drove it - got toasty warm stroked it then covered it in its duvet.

  13. Started it up for the first time in a while, took a few tries but fired up and ran well, then checked the leisure battery was charging from the Sterling B2B.

Will need to give it a good clean soon though.

  14. Not completely camper related but I’ve just been in my garage and the old spare battery from Lottie which was on my Victron charger was in a bad way, warm to touch and smelt badly of acid. Glad I spotted it now before anything else could happen.

  15. Played about with the heater box cables, the hot air blows through now instead of drifting out

Probably another shorted cell - the battery voltage drops with only 5 cells in series, the charger sees it as being a bit flat , so it increases the current to overcharge the remaining cells, 14.8 volts over 5 cells is too much.

And it sprays acid and hydrogen sulphide.

  17. More than likely, it’s about 10 years old the battery.
Thankfully it’s a smart charger, so was only putting in around 13.4 volts in the storage phase.

It’s been very abused this battery, left for years flat then called in to use for a while, then left to go flat again and again.

My near miss was a battery that had been left to go flat since March with one top-up charge. First time on a smart charger and it failed hot.. In my case it was the cooling fan on the charger going into overdrive that alerted me, and the current display gradually creeping up past 9 amps after the battery had been on charge for most of a day.

Put some more paint on the front bumper.

Discovered that just because the BOC computer tells you your welding gas order is ready , this means you can go and see it through the locked gate at the depot... failed to phone up first. So I am doing a click and collect round on Monday, currently the loop is about 70 miles .... from Totton to Hayling Island.

Picked at some more likely looking filler under the deformation panel and another pile of wet rust poured out. - its water running into the chassis members under the cab, running forward and going through the inner front valance where it had rotted out... Some redesign there I think , drain holes and loads of Waxoyl on the repairs...
I think the filler had lasted about 9 years though.

  20. introduced myself to the new neighbours bare metaling the front panel 20201227_134315.jpg
