    Hi all,

Sorry to keep going on about the wedge, but once this is done i can start the bay and i will be interesting again.

Basically tried to drive the 25 from my house to work, which is about 4 miles.

Crawled at 20mph then 15mph all the way until it wouldnt go up the slightest of inclines and i had to get towed the last half mile.

Checked the rockers, and on the nearside, the rhs rocker shaft nut had sheared and fell off, leaving the pushrod to do as it pleased. So i put a new nut on this and that was that.

When it stopped working i noticed an oil leak appeared but i have put that down to the rockers hitting the covers and causing a leak. I have yet to further investigate this leak to see if it is more than that or not.

So i checked all sparks, dizzy cap + rotor, and then did a compression test. My friend lent me the tester, it is in bar but most people seem to quote compression in psi or am i wrong?

    Anyway in bar

    1 - 10
    2 - 8
    3 - 12
    4 - 4

Looks a bit whacky to me. But i also heard it could be the tappets being out. So i am going to adjust those accordingly and then re-test. I am praying that this is the cause as it is an easy enough fix.

Basically, before this drive to work, it would happily, although sluggishly, do 30mph round our local roads near my house, but this drive felt different and rubbish, like i had the brakes on or something. (it isnt the brakes)

Cheers all, and this is the last hurdle before i sell it and start on the brown . Thanks for all your help.

  5. It doesn't matter what you read it in pressure is still pressure. So it looks like you have a problem with no.4 I would go round and check all your tappets and then do the test again and then do it after adding a teaspoon of oil down the spark plug hole

that's a quick google convert from bar to psi..... which looks wildly out to me...... so i'd check again, but obviously number 4 has a massive problem - do you know if there's even a valve in it?

Can i find mt tappet settings in the Haynes or is it simpler than that?

@rickyrooo1 there is no reason why it wouldnt. Would that be head off job to find out?

i was joking of course there will be a valve in as you have some sort of reading....it's just very low so there's obviously a problem there - either totalled valve or it's set open i guess as yout tappets are out?

  11. 12 bar = 175 psi !!!
    10 bar = 145psi
    8 bar = 116psi
    4 bar = 58psi

So yeah they are actually all a bit over the shop, I would do it again, take all plugs out and also have the accelerator pedal all the way down, ensuring the throttle body flap is open whilst doing the measurement

@pkrboo we did the test on tickover from cold. you reckon it should be done warm or under throttle?

  14. It's not meant to be running. Disconnect ignition and fuel, take out the plugs and turn it over half a dozen times on the starter to get the reading for each cylinder.

As much as it pains me to say, it just starts, i cant keep it on the starter for long cool i will disconnect.

    Pull coil wire

  17. Doing a compression test you need to have the coil disconnected so it doesn't start about 10seconds in each cylinder will be all you need to get a good reading.

    Engine NOT RUNNING.

turn over in starter to build the pressure in the cylinder you are testing with the plugs out if all the others so it turns over easier. Throttle open all the way

  18. His did you do it in tickover? Did you remove one plug at a time?

    Don't do it like that

You know the tester is 'good'?

Yeah tester is good. I didn't have it running while I took plugs out. Did each one individually. I will do a new test today and report back, based on the info above.
