So the 'I'm too uneducated' is not insulting as a replacement word despite NO EVIDENCE to support that swearing has anything to do with intellect or education.

Wonder what qualification one needs for priggish moralising...

Serious question here. What qualifies someone as educated or more to the point uneducated in your opinion?

I have a feeling I would be classed as uneducated even though I am actually quite well qualified, studied etc. The reason I say this is because I have noticed people that put any importance to education tend to respond to well spoken high vocab types, whereas I speak with a local accent, am pretty reserved and consider my opinions before impressing them on people or offering any opinion at all. I listen and sometimes do not respond. It is taken as a lack of education or understanding. It isn't, it is simply consideration ( I readily admit to being a complete numpty sometimes too) it's how a lot of people are.

Now, your Stephen Frys, Jeremy Clarksons and the like can spout a load of complete tosh and people take it all in as if they were having a personal consultation with Albert Einstein. The fact is "B-ll s..t baffles brains" as one of my schoolteachers used to say. I only ask this as you seem to attach such an importance to intellect, where in actual fact most of us are not intellectuals, just normal people who own dubs.

As a side note. I know a lot of lorry drivers ( salt of the earth types and all that ) and over the years have met many with degrees and higher qualifications, I have met an ex airline pilot and barrister who simply always wanted to drive lorries and at a certain time in their life have done so. Both of those two worked at Safeway RDC Droitwich alongside me. They wore the same uniform, used the same vocab, did the same job and to all intents and purposes were just lorry drivers like me. You could tell they had a better grasp of English than most of us, but in reality at that time of their lives they were simply semi skilled manual workers living out their dream, Did that put them on a higher plane, or did it show a failing in their make up. ie couldn't hack it at their chosen profession? I personally believe they were simply living out their respective dreams and enhanced my own life with intelligent conversation in the canteen between trips. They are part of life's rich tapestry. Normal people doing normal things, but they have a story, a past that some people would cut their own arms off to have, On the other hand I have a Barrister friend now that would probably cut his own arm off just so as he wouldn't have to drive a lorry or more to the point - not to be seen driving a lorry and all the stigmas attached to doing so!

As another aside.. Most lorry drivers I know don't swear much in every day conversation, where as most transport managers I know swear like the proverbial trooper.

What is a real clever person Moons, someone with letters after their name (an intellectual type ) or someone that is rounded and considered. Is priggish moralising the same as polite company and awareness of peoples personal boundaries or the actual asking people to think before they post?

Personally I see swearing on a forum and in life as a form of frustration or emphasis that says "hey listen to me, i'm swearing now, so take notice!" No need for it, can't see a point to it unless it's for humour and even then it's not always funny! I may be wrong, but that could be because I am not very intellec...

Having to use such a widely regarded vulgar word to convey feeling or emotion shows a distinct lack of the ability to use the English language. And the complete disregard of the forum rules just backs that up. It's the rules end of! As has been said before if you don't like it go to a forum that allows it.

I'll deal with each one in turn.

Point one - when? You can't state that without giving some form of evidence, so when and how does that manifest itself here or indeed anywhere else by me? So I'll call you on it....when?

Point two - because I'm inclined to defend people with degrees, that in your eyes is my barometer for intellect? The fact that at times the same people that seem to hate 'some arsehole with a degree in mechanical engineering can't work the machine I've spent 20 years working on' yet send their kids to college or University is ironic to me yet not to them. Is that intellect for me, no, more a different perspective. Regarding Stephen Fry...go and read my post again, I state pretty clearly that I'm evidencing the video as a means, not my whole argument, and it's based on the general support for his video on religion. So back to the question...my answer is framed more by my conclusion that a lack of intellect is someone lazy of thought, though that to me is not then proof that an over active mind is necessarily clever either.

I look at a persons communication at a particular time for its relevance, clarity and accuracy - silence isn't a pointer for intellect or wisdom no.

Point three - id just watched a video of some arse whipe smacking a frail elderly woman about for no reason. Both my grand parents had been in homes, my mum worked in a care home for years (registered RGN) and my brother worked as a home carer (degree in social work). Am I angry and frustrated that no one mentions that Bannentyne for example made his millions in care homes, and the owners are hugely rich across the board yet pay these people bugger all? Surprisingly, yes.

Do I expect my dissatisfaction to be blanked out...yes. Do I expect my comment to be hilariously reworded without my consent by someone else's....no.

Finally....I pride myself on my incessant look at me postings, I often start threads that share stories about me, what I've been doing, my family and friends because I massively like the limelight and have to draw people's attention to me.

The funniest aspect of Britishness to me is people applying their own possibly sub concious opinions on a person and accusing said person of some form of bias.

Oscar how many potential scammers have you reported?

Just interested as all members are added by hand so we can avoid scammers. Some obviously get through and when reported or noticed they are deleted.

In which case blank it out, don't put words into someone else's mouth without their consent.

I wrote it correctly as that is what I wanted to say, I didn't space it or change letters to numbers.

And, I would nominate a persons ability to use and understand a language is evidenced by their ability to use the correct swear word at the right time, universally, across the globe....but obviously writers, bloggers and professors of languages never swore ever.

Unfortunately not everyone will do this. Hence the need for a swear filter. As for the replacement words, they are intended as humour to try and lighten the mood a bit, especially as the full moon (no pun intended)seems to have shown itself on here again this last week.

No you haven't.!There have been no reports by you about anyone. Doug has, but that's another matter.

Don't swear and the filter won't change it. Simple as that really.

If people want to swear, same as we said when we started the site they can swear as much as they want on other forums.

If you feel victimised by the rules vote with your feet. That's not being harsh that's a simple life rule.

  18. I used the report button maybe 8 months ago. Unless it doesn't work through tapa.
Do you wait for complaints when people swear, or are you more pro active?
