I gave him that thermostat, free, because someone had given it to me.
He lost big time with the para bus, must have- all he got was a landy in bits. You need money to work, not swappsies, particularly in his situation. What he did was stuff that wasn't even asked for though, so he could show it on here and attract "clever Paul" comments. Ego problem, no business head, couldn't say no even when he had YEARS of work lined up. A perfect storm to get into robbing Peter to pay Paul. Literally!

Top Bannana on here bought one of his first, he was very supportive of us little guys, I restored a pick-up for him.
I fitted and test drove that engine, it was quiet and went like the clappers but it was too responsive if you know what I mean, I always suspected very high CR.

The spec I'm guessing was a copy of his own which also had a Porsche fan conversion. That engine, despite what you might have guessed from his sig, was built by Stateside, not P, but I don't know the spec. Maybe it's on the bottom of his old posts still?

  4. So I paid or was charged for a part that he was given, that was not fitted. That makes it even worse. I wonder how many other people paid for that thermostat?

Agreed. I want it back! Subsequently I had to buy one from the states for not far off £200 having given away my spare.

I didn't remember who I'd given it too until your post, but I have only ever disposed of ONE thermostat and I did give it away as described so it must have been the one.

i fitted that engine for mr banana racing , swapped another, painted the engine bay and stuff, wait actually maybe it was the one mr banana built himself i fitted and swapped the "Paul weeding" on in, do you suspect he copied state sides formula ?

Can’t really help. When I called him and said I need an engine rebuild he told me what I needed. maybe @PeaSoup or some of the others can help?

This is the apparent list of parts he sourced and again I know for a fact he didn’t replace various bits and then replaced other bits that didn’t need to be.

I’ve left the prices on so you can see what he charged back in August 2015

    Reground crank£160
    Main bearings£64.50
    Big end bearings£30.50

    Cam – Web 107i (Approx price)£200

I remember asking top banana about the Paul engine and he said he leaked like a sieve.

I deffo fitted Paul's one. All built up ready, I just bolted it in. TBR would have done that himself if he'd got that far building an engine? It arrived on a pallet.

Yes, that's exactly what I suspect.

It would have, he drove it at 100mph pulling a trailer at least once. I think TBR was more than happy to drive it to destruction, it was his style.

  11. To be fair mine went like a stabbed rat as @scrooge95 can bear witness too. I'd have liked it to go a bit longer than 500 miles.

This is why my personal guesswork theory keeps coming back to CR too high. Air-cooled.net recommend "Compression from 7.75-8.25:1" for the cam Ray has on his list, a hydraulic cam. ACN recommended CR is usually on the safe side, you can bump them up a little. Was yours hydraulic too?

  13. It has Hydraulic push rods so will presume the rest is suited !

Mick, sir, I know your back is boogered, but if you could measure the deck and photo the combustion chambers we could have fun guessing the CR. Better still cc the chambers but I don't imagine you're equipped for that?

  15. Booger is an under statement today. Took half hour to get out of bed. It's not here it's round the in laws. From what I saw the head lip is still on head. Didn't see ant spacers but the bottom of the barrel is smothered in some orange lookingbsilicone substance that could be hiding something.

Nothing there that jumps out as a potential disaster, a small capacity increase with 96mm B&Ps otherwise more or less standard. But was your engine the same spec as @paneuropaul?

I ‘thought’ Paul built a near enough standard setup for everyone but could be wrong.

@PeaSoup & @paneuropaul, care to share your builds?

  20. Pauls has 94mm pistons fitted.
