  2. Read all of the above and the usual race to the bottom attitudes. It’s natural I suppose to compare roles and reward and have a view on what is more worthy than something or indeed somebody else. I assume we’re all aware of the balloon test and who should be thrown out. If this government were in power manipulating that argument then first out would clearly be the balloon driver wouldn’t it.

So… we mostly don’t want driverless cars it appears but driverless trains … yes please. Who decided we wanted to make people obsolete in any walk of life and why? Technology to reduce human error then yes please. Would you get on an air liner being flown by itself or someone sat at a console on the ground. Anyone watched Sully or any of the documentaries about that crash. That wouldn’t have ended well would it! I’m guessing most wouldn’t and indeed most wouldn’t really trust an intercity travelling at 100 mph to be controlled by magic. Only a matter of time before some psycho hacks it eh!

This appears to be another miners strike, arguments are similar but I’m afraid Boris is no Thatcher. I predict a climb down.

We constantly hear the mantra of our govt striving for high paid jobs. Avoiding the argument as to whether those represented by RMT are paid too much, surely the job of govt ( in control of the purse strings on the Rail front) should start the ball rolling to create these “ high paid jobs “ progress it then through the NHS ( avoiding the overpaid hierarchy within ) then education, ( avoiding the same overpaid leeches ) then Local Authorities , Police, and energy/ essential services.
The govt may wish all of the electorate to be in receipt of high wages ( to fuel the taxes they will get in return) but if it is left to private enterprise alone to create these High paid jobs then It ain’t going to happen. The successful enterprises eg. Amazon, McDonalds, Starbucks, etc … create poorly paid jobs and to add insult avoid taxes here. Bit of a rant but I see in France last week after a 6 year battle one of the big boys has just had to pay more than a billion euros fine in relation to routing their profits “beneficially” to tax havens.
If we taxed these leeches properly then billions of revenue would come in. If they buggered off then independents who paid staff and their taxes properly would take their place…very quickly.

Ps. If it’s going to be left to private enterprise to create these “ well paid jobs” then the minimum wage / living wage needs at least a 35% uplift with no exclusions , save perhaps one for under 18’s ( though not sure on this ! )

It will be a cold day in hell before I travel by train again. Last time it cost an arm and a leg, and I couldn't do the return leg due to storms shutting down the network. Thank heavens for the Megabus that got me and the Norris family home! Far more comfortable, far cheaper, and you get to sit down!

  10. Yep.

We await the whining of the white collar sector when AI takes their jobs out. Still, at least then they won't have to huff and puff about three days of inconvenience when they are sat at home on Universal Credit......

  11. The building sector is already taking the pi$$ on the back of Brexit, Ukraine....

  12. Blimey. Labour have started their year of discontent and they haven’t even been elected in yet. Oh what a fun few years we are going to have. These seasoned Union bosses are gonna eat Kier alive once he gets into power. Rail strikes, nhs strikes, teacher strikes etc etc all coming out way. Can you imagine that wet weekend trying to stand up to the boss of the RMT. Nice one Borris.

  13. You voted him in ;)

  14. Yes I did. Because I wanted things to get moving on Brexit. I was sick of the stalemate. Before that I voted UKIP and before that I voted Labour twice.

I don’t think I can vote conservative again whilst Borris is the party leader. Whilst I agree with some of what they’ve done recently, like the furlough scheme, vaccine rollout, unlocking the country early etc, I think he has shown weak leadership over party gate. But I’m fearful of a union driven Labour government, trying to dish out money to everyone in the middle of a global economic downturn.

The shame of it is I actually have a really decent constituency MP, he’s well regarded by people of all political sides in my area. But I can’t vote for him if Johnson is the leader going into the next general election. Trouble is if I vote Kier, I get Rayner. I might spoil my paper.

@rustbucket, we all look at situations in a different way but it did make me chuckle with you comment "Labour government, trying to dish out money to everyone" when the Tory government has been doing that for years, mostly the money goes to the rich friends!

Also the article below is interesting in that the Labour governents have shown better fiscal management than Tory's over the years...

Personally I loved the train strike, it saved me a 10/15 minute wait at Tallington level crossing twice a day. College has finished now but hopefully they'll go on strike on Wednesdays and Thursdays from September

  18. Sounds like Rusty is not quite happy with what he voted for
    :)

  19. There’s a difference between being unhappy with a parties policies or unhappy with the conduct of individuals.

I didn’t vote for people to be having a jolly up in no10 whilst other people couldn’t see dying relatives.

I’m peed off with Borris because all he had to do was not do something stupid and they’d be a shoe in for re-election. I said I’d get Brexit over the line and I did. I said I’d get the vaccines rolled out asap and I did. I said I’d implement policies to stop people trafficking and I did. I said I’d protect peoples jobs through covid and I did. With an 85 seat majority that would easily have been enough. But oh no, Bloody Borris just couldn’t help himself.

so now we will get the government that the majority of you want Sir Kier WetWipe, Rampant Rayner and Brains of Britain Abbott. Held to ransom by their Union paymasters, run away wage driven inflation, borrowing the likes of which we won’t have seen for a generation.

so yeah you could say I’m not overly happy with our Borris. To stand any chance of stopping a disastrous Labour/Lib dem coalition which won’t actually manage to get anything done as they’ll spend the first three years arguing over which bits of each other’s manifesto to adopt, the conservatives need to out Borris now and have a good couple of years to try and repair their reputation before the next general election.

I reckon Borris is crazy enough to call an early general election if he thinks they are gonna out him and see how many he can take down with him.

^Dude, do you read the Daily Mail? Your view of politics is frankly childish ill informed sound bite rhetoric out of touch with reality.
For example if ANY government could ******* more debt up the wall with nothing to show for it than the present incumbents it would be a miracle.
Please note that apart from the last bar this in BEFORE covid. Also note how Labour kept it under control while improving PUBLIC SECTOR STUFF while the cons have borrowed more and more while crapping on anything useful to "the common man".
