Rise of the T5 !!

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by lumberjack, Aug 22, 2016.

  1. I'm more than happy to read about T5 things in threads with T5 in the title and dip into them to see how the other half live:) I think it's death to us part with my Bay though and hopefully it will be it before me!

  2. Ha my bay is the same age as me so we're going to go together :p

  3. friend had brand new transit in with 19 miles on it from dealership , for some paint work needing done , he said it was starting to rust on the seams underneath

  4. I gotta say up until the weekend I had both.
The T5 just seemed to attract downward glances from the number plate snobs but the bay gets smiles, waves, people slowing down to have a look and take pictures.

Loved my T5 but love the bay more....

    Had my bay 23 years.
Used it and it's been driven hard.
Been all over Europe covering around 80k miles. It now has a new engine, after blowing the original CA engine once and then finally killing it on the M5. Has a 127 now.
He is part of the family , having endeared himself to daughters and grandchildren.
Played a big part in our lives and hopefully will continue to do so.

Keeps me busy and active. It's a hobby that luckily I can afford and enjoy.
Also when you turn up at at somewhere new you meet like minded souls .

I'm doing exactly the same things in my T4 as I did in my Earlybay and then in my Latebay I just get there a bit quicker that's all, once your camped up its just the same. In fact more people tend to go to shows, camps and convoys in T4/5's these days than bays and from what I see on the forums it's no different

    Totally agree....
Once you're there it doesn't matter a hoot.

  13. You may be. Not everyone does. I dont mind anyone on the forum thats adding or contributing to the collective. Im actually quite interest d in other vws maybe i will have one some day. Who knows.

Is a sorted bay with a sorted motor or even a modern motor with the added and improved fuel consumption really an alternative to going "new". Depends if you drive legally or not. I quite often sit at 70 and think you didnt used to hang around in yours. A scoobie would be in there if i did the miles, or intended to!

I drive a Morris Minor on a daily basis and am going camping in it next weekend. It's just like driving the bay, I get a lot of waves and people always stop for a chat when I park. That's what I love about old vehicles, every journey is an event. When I drive the wife's Audi everyone thinks I' just another prat in a modern box in a hurry.

That looks like the mobile support unit for the people that clean bogs at festivals.

I'll agree on some points but not others, yes I see lots of 4/5 at shows camping but I reckon it's clubs off Facebook more than forums now, this forum is unique how it's so friendly and has made many offshoots of groups of mates that go off together, getting to a camp isn't the same, I enjoy the comfort and speed of a modern drive but in the bay the "apprehension" of the journey was almost exciting too, also the waves and smiles made you happy, the random nutter "my mate says" convos don't happen now, that said, beer is beer in a transit or a bay or a t4/5 and real mates don't care what it is, for me it was Mrs roo and a caravan, Mrs roo and a bay and now Mrs roo and the 5, as long as we have that and the dogs plus a beer and the occasional grandchild it's all pretty much good, the bay brought us many nice friends off here and many nice waves or convos off strangers, the caravan/5 never has and I doubt will, maybe that's why some people spend a fortune on bling for 4/5? To try to get noticed? All I know is older vehicles have style and evoke memories, I for example stared with admiration at a mint F reg mini metro the other day, hated them at the time, but now? Well it's not a japcrap Euro box so it's cool..... I don't think any of us hate modern vans really? We just don't like modern life or how it makes us act or feel, the old days were much better in our selective minds, so old cars must be?
Anyway all this moaning about modern stuff we should have got a brazzy bay they would have still loved us on here!

  20. We had this debate on JK when T25's imerged on the scene ,I was dead against the boxy ugly things ,but later in life they grew on me and I became more at peace with change..

I am pretty excited that there is loads of these t5's about and one day I will get one ,I could get a transit they look lovely, but I have been brainwashed to get a T5...:D

But I like classic vehicles and will always drive them ...

been thinking about @rickyrooo1 fuel economy ,this is how I see it...

    ricks van 20,000

    my T25 5 ,000

    I have 15,000 to spend on fuel...:D

    year 2026

    ricks van scrap yard..;)

    t25 worth 20,000

    :hattip:
