A quick google tells me it's mainly used when socialists have had their asses handed to them on a plate.
    Makes sense now.

That ^^^ is one of many reasons why Labour failed so spectacularly. Champagne socialism at its best.

I wasn’t aware that working hard and being successful was a bad thing.

Maybe some of us don’t recognise class anymore and thus aren’t forever deemed to be Master or Servant, despite having a better life than our forebears.

Surely describing oneself as working class plays right in to the hands of those in the upper classes?

  8. I can well remember the bad old days in the 1970's when we had a lot of government changes, Edward Heath, Harold Wilson, James Callaghan, Margaret Thatcher. Industrial unrest and strikes were the norm leading to power cuts, 3 day working week and the demise of our industries. Inflation rose to 17% and people's standard of living crashed and there was real hardship. The Unions had too much power and caused massive disruption. The miners' cause was hurting everyone and couldn't continue.

Margaret Thatcher came in and she had to act to stop the country falling apart. She was brutal and it became a battle ground.

In those days the Industrial Midlands and the North were 'working class' belonged to a Union and voted Labour. Those bad days are gone and the new generation doesn't vote Labour anymore.

The new generation don't want to be stuck in the past.

Its a time of hope and making Britain great again.

until you take a moment to compare your income to the rich.

At the end of the day we all want happiness over, career and health over wealth, yet while the super rich hold the purse strings they will always hold sway over those crucial things one way or another.

It is if you're a labour voter it would seem.
(Even they don't believe it really. Most of them are landlords, doctors etc who know they can pretend its "for the many" whilst swigging their champagne, knowing damned well they were never going to get in)

    Ye
Your view of unions is tainted by the hard left 70’s you need to read up a little more on what unions achieved in the beginning and how we are better off for having them. Granted they aren’t the honest establishments they once were, but some sort of representation is still very needed

  13. Disappointingly, the Unions are still causing trouble, like the RMT train strike. All they are doing is hurting people and for what? Those in charge are behaving like the Unions did in the 70's. Times have changed and the modern way is talk and compromise.

I’m a landlord and a very fair one. I don’t expect you to believe there’s such a thing, but believe me, without my benevolence over the years some people who have rented off me would be in dire straits and I have many a thank you letter saying so. Just because a person has worked hard to achieve doesn’t mean he has to be a grabbing self centred git or can’t be a socialist!

Hurting people or asking for something that is fair to their members?

they were very good in the beginning but turned greedy besides it's ironic that if pits hadn't been shutdown they would more than likely be under threat from mass climate protests today

  18. Sorry, but that's a stereotypical observation of unions from the outside.

There was a lot of union power and sometimes it was bloody-minded, but heavy industry in the 1970's was still a relatively dangerous place to work. As I said earlier, my father was a shop steward - at Llanwern steelworks - he worked as an engineering fitter and I can remember several times that he came home from a shift having had what would now be called an industrial accident, electric shocks, burns, cuts etc. No such things as risk assessments, only basic PPE, It was union solidarity that improved conditions back then, to the benefit of workers now.

The working class don't belong to 'closed shop' unions anymore because of industrial redundancy, nothing else.

I thought the same the other day, but unions weren’t always about miners and car workers they were a union of trades in the beginning and negotiated decent rates for the owners and workers alike. Things have gone awry since the 60’s really.

Sorry, but that is such an ill thought out reasoning it just plays into the bosses hands.

we could easily be in need of support one day, but with reasoning like that it won’t come.
