was it an auto? i only went for this beetle cos it was auto would have preffered 1.6 or 1.8 but as said i think it was good money so i just had it, regret what you don't do not what you do.

  6. I've gotta say I think the new Beetle looks great Ric.

Now, if you can get a matching handbag and shoes you'll be all set :)

to be fair mate i had an auto jag years ago and loved it, but once i sold it i never thought of having another, when i got offered the van and realised it was an auto it didn't bother me and i realised i am a lazy driver and c.b.a wiith manual anymore, i said to myself once i got another car it would be auto so we are now there......auto was the deal breaker.

I'd like to publicly support Rick in his choice of motor.
Some of the new Beetle colours are a bit "girly" but not this one, it just reeks masculinity & testosterone.
Excellent choice in my not so humble opinion.

  13. We have a W reg 2ltr manual, I drop my wife to work and pick her up so im the main driver and have heard all the hairdesser, girly comments though ive yet to find a hairdresser with one, they seem to mostly drive golfs and polos ::)
Now driving one of these ( I dont even take the flower out the vase) doesnt make me any less manly though I have started shaving my arm pits and im far more concious of wether my colours co-ordinate or not, jeez ive even started putting the loo seat down, but I like the attention and the comments, lets face it this thread is on its 7th page already.
As far as auto goes my sister around the time we bought the bug got her self a same year auto golf. I test drove it and it changed fine and kicked down well etc, a couple of weeks however it stopped changing gear, she took it to the garage she got it from and they couldnt sort it so it went to a VW main dealer, they too couldnt sort it as they didnt have the specialist equipment apparently, in the end it went to a specialist firm 40 miles away who in the end fitted a recon unit. A week later the same problem, car went back and this time a new box was fitted which is still going strong.
Now this didnt cost her anything because the car was under waranty but the whole episode took over 5 weeks to sort out. Worth looking into.
If i was going to moan it would be about the tiny boot and the fuel consumption, but hey no one forced us to buy it. Problem wise there are 3 we've had which have turned out to be common.
The window regulators consist of a wire cable which frays and snaps, a *******y job but the parts are available on ebay cheap and there are NB forums which show you how to sort it yourself ( a good 2 or 3 hr job). Secondly a lot of them suffer with boot lock problems where all of a sudden they dont want to shut properly, most people just slam the hell out of them but theres a little trick where you insert the key in the boot lock, turn it left then right and it resets itself. The other problem is some times warning lights come on and its always been a connector for some reason so always worth cheching first.
Other than that they are great fun and certainly less boring than some of its siblings ;)

  14. Not a great fan of new Beetles, but the colour and wheels both suit it. Nice buy at £1,900.

  15. i think with auto s you either love em or hate em i personally hate em as it makes the car fell under powered the only auto s i seem to get on with are merc

i rang the vw dealers today who have stamped the book for all services, the guy was real nice and confirmed they have serviced/mot'd and repaired this car from new any job needed doing was done no question also confirmed it was on a private reg V3 GAH i've been on the d.v.l.a and ran a mot check and it all ties up perfect so i'm happy so far.....apart from the fact 6 month tax just cost me £143 (12 was £260! more than the van!) and i put £50 petrol in yesterday and it didn't fill it....Grrrrr!

I like it! Is it denim blue? I like the wheels too.

I had a denim blue TT - now that's a manly steed if ever there was one!
