The 'new' MINI coopers go like the stink and handle like the roller skates they are designed to be.

They're still for girls though. That is a f.act which is undeniable - MINI even market it for girls only. They use really simple terms in the sales jargon which is steered towards girls and estate agents

 

a vw lemon .....pricey for a 51 plate beetle....i say go a auction near you and buy a v8 sumthing ........or get a pt cruiser fully loaded for that ,and milage is better........

 

My experience is that the 2l petrol was thirsty and undergeared. could have really done with sixth. The inside is fragile if you have kids but quite roomy for two littleuns. They handle well and are fun to drive though. Lets face it, a golf would be a sensible choice but it wouldnt smile at you every day.

Missus sold a y reg 2l petrol 2 years ago in silver with hight mileage for 2500. She now has a 04 cabriolet 1.9td which is awesome fun - the whoosh at 2.5k revs is brill. But, it has been really brittle around central locking and airbag lights. All fixed now but not the best build quality.

I want to find a 2l petrol for about a grand and put red powder coated steelies on it, whitewalls and rattle can it black. Diamond Leather interior and a faded sign on the doors. Luvverly.

 

can confirm it's thirsty on the fuel, i've done less than 100 miles since monday, i put £50 in it and it was just under the full and it's now just under the half........and that's light footed driving, people on the beetle forum reckon they are cack on short runs some reporting 18 mpg on short trips but 40 on long motorway jobs, they reckon the 2 litre auto is the worst of the lot for gas mileage.......



but at least i have a flower.

 

to be fair it's gonna be a culture shock from 50+ mpg on the fiesta to any older petrol car i guess and i obviously know auto's are thirstier than manuals because my van is auto, that said my van is a 2 litre 3 speed auto and the car is a 2 litre 4 speed auto, the difference on a short run is not a great deal which given the weight difference and improvement in fuel injection in the 30 years between the 2 is suprising.... as much as i'm happy to have the pee ripped for buying it the drive is lovely compared to a tinbox fiesta or some of the tank like landies i've had, it's really comfy and fun to drive, and yes, i know some of you have flashy cars and would think it's not but for someone like me who's only ever had ford or landrover it's a nice car, i'm not gonna compare it to the jag i had even though that was auto because the size difference makes it incompareable. i guess i'll have to get used to using it differently than a small diesel and walk a bit more etc 'cos for now i ain't gonna get rid of it.

 

You need to get one like mine. 2 litre diesel auto, 6 speed, full auto or dsg flappy paddles. Around 50 mpg. Sometimes
