not brand new, i've seen a Y reg 2 litre auto for sale 95.000miles, my daily is a shed and i'm thinking of getting rid and i want an auto anyway, never sat in one driven one or worked on one.......but that was the same with the van so i don't care......what to look out for or should i stay clear? Ta.

  2. My wifes daily is a Y reg 1.6 "New" Beetle. Its got 140k on it and runs great, mind you the 1.6 is under powered.

It a Golf, as simple as that, so many bits are compatable - have to say it makes me smile everytime I drive it, comfortable too.

As far as I could make out when we bought ours look out for

All wheel baerings - cheap but they go regularly
Cv's again but you can get a shaft and Cv's for about £60
Electrics are a mare - butchered Golf loom which goes wrong regularly especially central locking !
The coil pack is suspect but only costs about £40 off ebay
Build quality seems to be not as good as other VW's
Check you get 2 keys - they cost an arm and a leg

As I say I like it and my Mrs gets very protective of it!
    Cheers
    B

i had 2l petrol loved it but it liked juice. i guess an auto may have a drink habit. nice cars though

  4. the day the new beetles first came out my mum got the 2ltr turbo automatic one and my lord!
that bug moved .... i am not proud but i remember driving home from brighton to crawley one night after a club and did the trip in 13 minutes!

i guessed the fuel may be an issue however i really need to get the fiesta gone and as much as it would make more financial sense i don't want to use the van as my only drive, it would be fine to go to work and back but i wouldn't like to go shopping in it or leave it on train station car parks all day like i can with a car, i think i'll go for a closer look at the beetle on saturday.

My brother had one - Heavy on Fuel, and the consumption of flowers for the vase was far above that on any other car.

  7. Get a real Beetle not the fake

each to their own on what looks better/feminine car etc, i just want to know if the 2 litre auto beetle is a dog or decent.....i don't want a golf i don't like the look of them. as for getting the original beetle i don't want another 70's car i want some sort of luxury offered by the more modern car.

Ok cheers for the sensible advice thus far, i have no real idea on the engine type all i know is it's a Y reg so 2001? 2 litre auto, i did the girly thing and liked the colour and the wheels when i saw it, the [glow=red,2,300]FACT[/glow] it's an auto is a bonus to me, my bay is an auto and i had a jag auto years ago and forgot how easy/lazy a drive it was so i said to myself my next car would be an auto, with a £2k max budget including the p/x of the fiesta the beetle comes in at £1995 on the forecourt and over the phone he's offered me £500/600 on p/x so i could do it, i know the fuel is gonna be more and it's a crazy plan but since when has that mattered to me?, bit worried there seem to be issues with things on them but isn't that the same with any car? i have looked on e-bay and auto trader and 2k seems the going rate for a beetle of that age.
