I seem to remember Red Bull could not be sold without a doctors prescription in France because its caffeine levels were above the prescription drug thresholds.
Not that I want to defend McDonalds, but that's an urban myth, they're not that bad, at least in the UK. Actual ingredients are much worse in the US though! UK: Ingredients: Potatoes, Non-Hydrogenated Vegetable Oils (Rapeseed), Dextrose, salt. US: Ingredients: Potatoes, Vegetable Oil (canola Oil, Corn Oil, Soybean Oil, Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Natural Beef Flavor [wheat And Milk Derivatives]*), Dextrose, Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate (maintain Color), Salt. *natural Beef Flavor Contains Hydrolyzed Wheat And Hydrolyzed Milk As Starting Ingredients.
There is something my son watches on TV or Youtube that shows the differences between same fast food in UK versus the US. From what he tells me the US version always contains more (bad) ingredients. Cant remember what the show is called though.
I think we/Europe have banned some chemicals that the US still use.. You can probably assume every thing we consume has been tainted or modified in some way..
Finally did the right thing. My father died of prostate cancer two years ago, and my maternal uncle was diagnosed with it earlier this year, then the husband of one of my wife's colleagues was unexpectedly diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer recently. So with so much of it about, and what could be a genetic predisposition, finally went to the GP this morning. Had the full MoT, found out I am 1 cm taller than I thought, which was nice. Having said the blood results would take a few days, the doctor called me late afternoon. I was bit concerned he called so quickly, but, all OK 2.6, which apparently is OK for my age. My cholesterol was also surprisingly not worth mentioning, interesting level of biliverdin, but nothing to worry about. So much relieved, and can start worrying about rust on the van's chassis again now. Thanks for 'getting the message out'.
That’s great. But bear in mind you ( especially with your family history) should monitor the levels. 12 months ago I was 2.8 and it jumped to 5.42. It is not definitive of anything but you now have the datum level so annual checks would seem wise .
Thanks for the "jog" @Chrisd ... and the datum was what I decided to set up ... 1.5 despite known BPH for at least three years ... Nice low starting point thank you very much
Eventually went private to get the Blood test done- £120 for the GP, £45 for the test - all clear. I'll never attack the NHS - but in Wales, if you can get past the absolute C words who work on reception who think they are qualified to Triage, I'm fairly sure its a good service. It's a big iff - and is getting that bad I'm debating moving house. Seriously.
That's arse. I just phone mine and make an appointment for any blood test and they do it pronto. The receptionists actually ARE qualified nurses, you see the same GP every time and they don't use locums. I'd move!
I had to do an online triage thing (no more calling for appointments apparently) then got a call back at a time (wide) of my choosing. Spoke to an actual doctor and now have a psa blood test next Thursday.
I just go to the local Laboratoire de Biologie Medicale, no appointment necessary, the test is done in a few minutes and I receive the results by email the same day.
Within five weeks I have been admitted into Southampton general scanned MRI x 1 and CT x3 X rays x 2 Endoscopy x 3 Stent fitted in pancreas Various consultations with consultants/surgeons Superb Nursing care And a referral To Oncology to start chemotherapy asap The treatment I have had from NHS has been outstanding .
Good luck to you, hope it all goes well I think the point people are trying to make is the tortuous route through the Primary Care system has got far worse in recent years, but the NHS still works wonders once you get inside the 'system'. Our local surgery is a large GP Partnership across several locations, none of which resemble anything like they did prior to Covid - our local surgery now has half of the seats it had before Covid. I had one GP in over twenty years, then three in eighteen months.....
Bloody impressive considering they don’t have opposing thumbs….I thought they were only good at farting, then I remember they are handy for blind people.
It’s a lot to take in…..it pays to have a good book and know where the hospital shop is I find….oh and never forget your phone charger.
