  2. squeaky floorboards mean that i can always tell if the cat's going to sneak up and jump on me. or if i'm about to be murdered by an axe murderer.

  3. i know :(

  4. chipflooring isn't your bog basic loose chip.....it's designed for flooring....moisture proof, expands/contracts without warping, T & G...it's the real deal.....
Engineered timber flooring can be skinny, ie a few mm thick, but you wouldn't know to look at it....

  5. hey, i've had an idea! shall we have a TLB meet in saltaire to sort my bathroom out? like a barn raising but, um, smaller and without a barn. and no instructions other than my ideas.

    shall we?

    *hello*

  6. i need pics. that stuff i had to take up was like oversized shredded wheat and a pain in the bum. i like boards which can be lifted to hide things under. bodies. maybe. of tradesmen. possibly.

  7. will there be Vol au Vents?

  10. So let me get this straight: there's one joist higher than the rest on an outide wall, and you want to raise the floor to this height?
or lower the joist height to match the others?....it's only a metre square, but the joists below the bath need reinforcing?
    The shower's sorted...it will fit....

  11. Haha. But the keep lisa sane pixies will love you for it.

Yup, that's the stuff. Horrible. How can that even a floor with boards on too when the test if the floor is just boards? Won't that then be even higher? *thrusts platter to vanorak* vol au vent?

  12. Yes! Kind of.
The joist is two pieces of wood on top of each other and needs lowering to meet the rest of the floor. It is probably two foot long and is causing the levelling problem. The other one (central of the reclaimed bathroom bit and runs 90 degrees to the proper joists) has been cut through but think I'll get some steel plates made to brace it. It'll be easier I think. Esp as dad is a steelworker.
there are floor boards missing where the shower tray was laid on top of some plaster board;)

  13. Pieces on top. On mobile and the cracked screen is doing my head in!

  14. Oh. Thanks! Don't mind if i do....*takes bite*.....Well, *clears throat* you'd batten onto/under the higher joist so that the batten height is the same as the others, then floor onto that....engineered timber on top...
It's hard to know exactly wht you'd need to do, without seeing a pic tbh....*wipes a small flake of puff pastry from chin*....

  15. *passes napkin and more 70's nibbles* hmm, but wouldn't the higher joist be protruding above the floor then? i thought it'd just be a case of sorting the joists (if you say it quickly it's much easier, y'know) and then replacing the cut through/holey floorboards with new/old ones, then bobs your uncle, no? cheese and pickled onion on a stick? *passes foil wrapped potato hedgehog*

  16. Mmmmm Silverskin Baby Pickles.....my favorite......It depends how close to the wall the joist is....if it's bare brick now, and the joist's butted up to wall, then you could lose it behind plaster and skirting....Like i said...it's hard to tell what's required....

Are those Iced Gems, over there, next to the Fondue?

  17. ahh, of course! the bath plumbing will be going 'overland' (i'm sure there's a better term but my tired brain won't reveal it) and be boxed in around there as that's also where the waste on the outside goes under (under the too tall joist). you GENIUS! so now i just need to know how to do it *gulp* *takes large slug of Blue Nun.

ah. they were... but in a moment of weakness i nibbled off all the icing sugar blobs while getting the doilies out to line the plate. sorry

  18. No wine for me Thanks, I'm driving....I'll have a Coke Float though!
i think the best suggestion would be to get your old fella to have a look and see what sort of fixing plate you'd need.....he's not likely to let his daughter fall through the floor, so will probably over engineer it

you can 'tie in' joists to each other with 'noggings'

Right then!.....it's been a lovely evening....Thanks for the buffet....*d0ns quilted car coat, stringbacked driving gloves, with chequered flag motif, and chugs off in a White Mk 2 Capri*
