  1. I think you've got a lot on your plate and will probably feel at the mercy of every tom dick and harry you ask for a quote....
here's a tip....look at the diagram again and instead of seeing 'a shower', look at how it's designed....how it's put together...it's just tubes and joints...so can be bent, shortened, lengthened, whatever.....
this applies to most things.....the more you look at the design, the easier it is to get your head round (no pun intended)

  2. have you tried a reclaimed timber place? Tell him/her the size of the room and the size of boards you want.....they can then be cut/planed/thicknessed to suit

  3. That shower is designed to have hidden pipework, the Chanel will need to be quite deep looking at the diagram.
There will be a fitting that connects onto the shower, then it will need a 90 degree bend before going up or down the wall, as it's a mixer it will need either two chanels or both up one, then off to hot and cold
What's on the other side of the fixing wall?

  4. the whole quote/estimate thing is ridiculous. i asked a joiner the other day to quote for reinforcing the joist, leveling the floor and filling the gaps with floorboards. i told him i'll be sanding and painting the floor and he came back with a quote for putting chipboard down. CHIPBOARD! give. me. strength.
the plumber who quoted for plastering as well, even though i told him i've got a plasterer, disappeared after i asked him to quote just for floor and plumbing. he then texted me yesterday to ask when i wanted him to start!? i suspect he thinks i'll be railroaded into letting him do the lot without a proper breakdown/quote. can't use him now as i don't trust him not to disappear or hear what i've asked him to do. :(

  5. was looking online but as theyre going to be under the bath and painted i don't mind if they're modern thin ones. there's already two different widths in there where they moved the stair bulkhead to gain more space... which is also why i want the joists sorting as it was never meant to have a massive bath full of water on it

  9. and he was going to sort he floor out too. his dad had a building firm and he had to learn all the trades. clearly with the exception of customer communication.

  10. oh... will it be a problem? she's a very sprightly 78 year old italian lady. met her today, very lovely and no way looks 78!

  11. They should run at 90 to the floor joists?

  12. it's a damned sight easier to level a floor with chipflooring.....once the joists have been sorted, why not lay chip board to level and then engineered floorboards over the top...best of both worlds....will be warmer as well....

  13. they do... where the original floor/joists were. but they reclaimed the above the stairs bit by moving a wall, which ran at 90 from the joists, and putting in some cross 'joists' to put floorboards down. will get some pics tomorrow.

  14. Ok, it goes in the bath yes?
If you can't sink it in the wall and don't want a false one, what about a compromise? Just box the pipework in from the edge of the bath to the mixer valve and turn it into a shelf ?

  15. Stops um squeaking as well :)

  16. it's only where the wood laid as joists along the outside wall are too high and so the boards are on a slope. there's also a cut in one of them which i don't like the look of. these ones are not original but put in to hold up(?) the reclaimed floor. and i hate chipboard. and it's only about a square metre that needs sorting.

  17. That chase can't be more than two inches deep.....plus waterproof render/skim.....it'll be fine

  18. it's a freestanding bath.
