as a keeper....I'd start with a new crankcase and build a solid blueprint 1776....I'd also replace the tank with an LPG tank and fit a small sill tank for starter fuel... for all the benefits of subaru, there's a lot of work involved, and when people say 'well if it pops, I'll just buy another one for a few hundred quid', it's still a lot of faffing.
I know where there's a nice condition Porsche 3.4 six pot, with gearbox and hydraulic clutch for sale at £3,000. That should go up hills ok, you probably wouldn't have to change gear much. I'm guessing it would pull away in any of the first 4 gears and it would do more than 15mpg if you kept it under about 90.
Wheres the faffing after its been converted i xan drop my enginee quick and easy its just 4 bolts u no
ok, sorted run it til it explodes or i finish paying the loan i had to buy it then ship it to you for a "quick" ahem, turnaround.
I can do quick turnaround, just the logistics of paras van is very different to anything else I've ever done before!!
Been painting the dash top today, and put the steering column back in, and did a couple of other bits too
Isn't the 3.4l too long to fit. I think @darren.moss had this trouble when he went this way. I wouldn't do scooby, if you want the modern power drive ect buy the modern van. It's like air ride if you can't drive them low don't lower them . Just saying though. ;-)
If anyone wants a Scooby lump with all the bits and transmission adaptor give me a shout - the guy I'm getting my bus from is pulling a Scooby lump out of it and wants to sell it. Don't have any details unfortunately apart from he wants around the grand mark for it and it's in Berkshire.
