  1. Fair play, I guess remove the locker and a full width Rock and roll with memory foam is the answer

  4. Yep I came from years of camping in a tiny tent, I still find to be able to stand and ******* in a milk bottle a luxury

  6. having re read this thread, IMO, it comes down to the most practical use of space, rather than which is the most suitable vehicle for a conversion. When it comes to selling a bay (or a split or T25 for that matter) prospective buyers expect to see certain features: sink, stove, storage, seating and a bed. In contrast, as an owner, you chop an change according to your personal preferences, and soon learn the shortcomings of different layouts. From what I gather, Rick and Mrs. Rick like to take quite a few creature comforts when they go camping, which obviously limits the space available....are all these things absolutely necessary? Do you need loads of storage space to take food and provisions, or could you buy in what you need local to the campsite, and store it in a pop up larder? Is it a prerequisite to have a sink, fridge or water storage, if you're on a site with taps and facilities? Could the dogs have their own tent, or kip in the awning? Think about how you actually utilize the van itself: do you cook in it, or cook in the awning? Do you like to sit in the van for the most part, or is it just a mobile bed with space to stash stuff that you chuck out when you camp up?

I reckon you could come up with a layout for a Bay that fulfils your requirements, if you consider the ways you actually camp

  10. are we talking about an island bed, 'cos if we are, I think most van based conversions are out of the picture...some A class and coachbuilts have them, and afaik, they tend to be longer to accommodate the inherent loss of storage space

If your knees are foooooked why not have a double amputation from above the knees?

Wait, wait , don't say no straight away, think about it for a while.

With only stumpy legs you would only need a four foot long bed which means you could have the bed across the van rather than front to back. Therefore you'd have easy, simple access into the side of the bed.
It gets better as well because you'd be able to get dressed standing up even in a tintop so you'd look cool while camping. :)

    Win, win mate.

    Happy to help.

if the van was gutted totally and you used the area where the bed is now for storage (sink/fridge etc) across the sloped bit i wonder if some sort of "fold down" bed could be made using the side to store it - either that or a bench seat in the front that "flips" to form half of the bed and then a drop down to join to it? i wish i was an engineery type as i'm not explaining myself well but i know what i mean.

  16. can you say line one ,then follow it with line 4...:D

but I am of the same opinion ,driving a bay is a great experience and I will probably buy another ,the T25 is a foot in the classic/retro Vw market ...

I had endless fights with Boswell on jk about his ugly T25 , i would never have imaged then I would own one now...

T4/t5 is a step too far away for me...:D

  17. ^ this.

the 3/4 rock and roll bed in the berlin isn't really big enough for two proper sized adults IMO.

loads more room if you lose the fridge and wardrobe and go full width. we've put the overhead back in though - if your feet are that end its fine.

  18. where do you put all your kit when the bed is up?

  19. full width bed has more space under it than a 3/4 width :)
