I know you love Bolly, but if you're contemplating something to help you sleep better a westy (or any bay) isn't the best even if you sleep with your head toward the slider. They are all quite small re. negotiating space inside. We manage ok because neither us have any height. But if you are tall and are having difficulty with knees, backs etc it must be hell. You may be better sleeping in the awning. Or get another caravan
In its original Viking form, our van was like this is ie it had units across the slopey bit, so when the bed was made up, it filled the "cargo floor" area. Complete pain in the bum! When bed is made up, there is NO free space, you can do nothing but lie on bed. At least with an r n r you can get out of bed and into some free space. That's why we ditched the Viking interior and got an r nr
I don't understand your issues with pillows falling off the end of the bed....I always had you down as a pillow biter...
I sometimes feel like selling mine to be honest and if the wife had her way we would have sold it a long time ago. All that tends to change when I take it for a spin at the weekends though. As we don't use it for camping much at all (we have 16 month old son so the logistics make it difficult) I was thinking of selling it and getting a fast toy like a Nissan 350Z or a kit car. The thing that keeps me going is the thought of taking my son away on trips when he is older, even if it is just the two of us without his mum!
It's only an old van, if you don't like it anymore, flog it. If we stopped enjoying our camping trips in Skippy he'd be down the road so fast and we'd have three or four months holiday in the USA on the proceeds.
My mate has a lwb t5, granted it isn't a pop top, it has a proper built interior with a 3/4 bed. It isn't as roomy inside as I expected.
Trouble is, if big name converters (Wellhouse, Reimo, Leisuredrive etc.) brought out a model with a really good, basic camping interior, punters would walk away....everything including the kitchen sink seems to be the market mindset....
or be prepared to sacrifice internal space in order to have bespoke storage....camping in a bay is often like one of these
Here is my mates LWB T5 conversion http://www.vwt4forum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=360516 loads of storage underneath the bed/seat and a massive bed, the roof hinges at the back so with the roof bed in the up position, provides loads of headroom. He built this mainly because of the same reasons as you @rickyrooo1 , bedspace and bed access was the priority
