  2. List of jobs to do before 22 Jan:

Sand and paint roof rack, refit brackets and refit to roof.

    Fit new alternator bracket

    Check rattle in exhaust

    Make rear mudflap brackets (doubtful)

    Sort front brake pipes properly

    Fit new front wheel bearings

Drop engine and gearbox and look at shifter problem (also doubtful)

Drop off front seats to be recovered

Clean up along sills and rust treat

Clean up underneath and rust treat and stone chip as required

Hmm longer list than I thought

Is that a rare Westfalia two connector black box?

Admittedly, it's not a three connector, but when you only see one in a lifetime...

What are you painting it with?

Sorry, I was to distracted by the possible sighting of a Westfslia two plug box to register that....

  9. Yes that is a bit of a distraction!!

Was a while ago that I last painted it though

  10. Finished the sanding off and got it painted tonight[IMG]

Paint had separated a bit!! Then again I did last use it in may 2012!!

    [IMG][IMG]

  11. Brackets now on.

Painted Matt black, then used M5 Allen head screws with nyloc nuts and used a piece of flat aluminium bar to act as a spreader behind.

  12. Last weekend I started fitting my solar panels, had them since August so not bad going for me.

    Tiger sealed on

    [IMG][IMG]

    Charge controller mounted
    [IMG]

  13. Ordered some grommets so I could put the cables through the roof.

    Scary times, drilling the roof!!

Grommets in and wires pushed through

    [IMG][IMG]

Made a bracket for the branch connectors

    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

  14. Drilled more holes in the roof and mounted the bracket

    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Just the final holes to drill through the metal roof!!! And connect upto the charge controller.

Oh and if you hadn't realised I pretty much copied what @theBusmonkey did with his setup.

This may have been asked before, but what do the solar panels and all the associated faffing bring to the party?
What can you run off them that you cant run off a leisure battery or hook-up or is it just to keep the leisure battery charged?

  16. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

No faff once installed and yes charges the battery.

  17. basically keeps the leisure battery topped up. Park up and you know staraight away that the lesiure battery is going to getting some charge.

means you dont have to have hook up everywhere you camp. I am too tight to pay for hook up (although not too tight to spend money on solar panels) and tbh I like the idea of being self sufficient. We hopefully be doing some longer trips into europe in the next couple of years.

I was commenting on all the stuff you need to fit and holes that need drilling etc. I wondered if they did something I wasn't aware of but it appears not.
