Miss Daisy's Light Restoration

  1. Looking really good mate, what thermal stuff did you use in the doors and side panels?

  2. I picked up a roll of thermal insulator from Wickes. Foil on one side, then has a centre layer of plastic cells with polythene on the other side. Light and very easy to cut. Normally used for insulating lofts, walls etc and non-absorbent.

Pretty certain you can get similar elsewhere but well pleased with this stuff.

  3. sounds good! think I might go for this, just looked on the site and its reasonable too! cheers buddy keep the pics coming!

  5. Thanks Matty.

I will PM you tomorrow as now the bed is in I am ready to reinstate the electrics and need some more of your magic.

  6. Good work Popestar

  7. Working from home today, so whilst at a loose end during a tea break I popped the drivers door card on:

    Every little bit helps :)

I have a great local bespoke furniture guy who I hope will build my furniture, but he is booked solid until June. I feel an MDF temporary solution pending the real McCoy.

  8. Ooh thats panels very nice proper posh

  9. Been making some progress getting a few things lined up to finish off:

Foam cushions arrived today. Got them from a place in Stourbridge I found on google - very pleased and the rear hatch cushion is precut to shape.

Off to see the trimmer on Tuesday to discuss finish - going for Jaguar Magnolia with Porcelain Green stripes (to match panels).

Cabinet maker is booked for mid June start on interior and reckons it will take a couple of weeks, so need to improvise some basic temporary stuff to last till then - fitted an MDF panel to the front of the RnR and going to make some kind of containment to secure fridge in place.

Will be laying Madmatz tile set tomorrow and have a set of their natural mats on order.

Matty is coming to get my electrics re-wired in a couple of weeks.

Hoping I have cured my water leak - I bought a tin of seam sealer and applied it liberally to the body under the offside track cover. Just need to change rear hatch seal as I have a small leak coming through that - hope the rustworm is not hiding beneath the rubber!

Last but not least, MOT is due at end of April, so fingers crossed she gets through that ok.

    Roll on summer

  10. Good day today. Floor tiles laid and Vanwurks stainless door trim fitted. Also overhauled passenger door and fitted new door card.

  11. Got another few hours in today. Few jobs in the cab, including fitting a new handbrake gaiter and properly securing the pedal cover.

Then made a start on fixing rear hatch panels - good progress until I broke my drill bit and remembered it was Easter Sunday:

So refitted rear belts (and checked that bed does not hit them).

Had a crawl around nearside driveshaft and found CV boot is split, which probably contributes to knocking that is getting worse on that side - so new CV joint kit required. Pretty p$£%ed off as I asked the 'VW specialist' I had sort out my windows to take a look at this and he clearly didn't bother as well as leaving a load of holes unfixed under the offside track cover, which were leaking just as bad as the windows. I guess he has plenty of work on and wasn't that bothered about my repeat custom.

  12. Looking really good mate:thumbsup: Where did you get your sill edge from? top marks lad!

  13. Vanwurks! sorry:oops: need to start reading things properly haha

  14. Been doing bits and pieces on van since my last post.

MOT was last week, took the chance to fit a new nearside drive shaft as at least one of the CV joints was shot. Picked up a complete drive shaft with CV joints, boots and all fittings for £96 from VW Heritage. I am going to refurb old driveshaft so if I have problems in future I can just swap the complete assembly. Only problem on MOT was a seized nearside front caliper.

I have replaced the rear hatch window seal which was the source of one of my two remaining water leaks, so could finally finish fitting panels:

Just need to fit a set of jailbars but managed to snap another two drill bits today

The RnR cushions are already at the trimmers and I have decided to take the plunge and get the front seats trimmed to match. They are Recaros that originally came from a Ford and the runners have been cut/welded, so they sit nice and low:

Only problem was that one of the rear allen bolts is blocked by the runner, due to the way they have been modified, so getting the seats out turned into a challenge worthy of the Krypton Factor. Finally managed it after a lot of choice language and hoping that getting them back in is a bit easier. I had rubber mats underneath the seats and have had leaky doors, so some rust, but generally the cab area is as sound as the rest of Miss Daisy:

I am going to give everything a good going over with T-Cut and then paint underseat area with Hammerite as I am going to fit out the cab with a set of Madmatz carpets I bought at Volksworld.

Matty is sorting out my interior electrics tomorrow and then I will be ready to camp. Just waiting for cabinet maker to be ready to start furniture build which should all be finished by beginning of July.

  15. Don't use hammerite it's crap use a good enamel or rattle cans .
    Nice bus though :)

  16. Rustoleum is what I used for my interior painting.... I am sure paradox would approve!

  18. Ah 'paint wars' again ;). I have not had any problems with Hammerite on top of Red Oxide - I used it for the cargo floor and it came up fine. I am going to be glueing the under seat mats down so just want to get a bit of paint on the areas with a bit of surface rust. I know Rustoleum has a good rep, but each to his own.

    'Go Hammerite' :theforce:

  19. Hey NatchoNatch... what Rustoleum paint do you use and where do you get it from? I've seen several references to it on TLB and, after using Hammerite Smooth on my front beam, want to try something else instead,

  20. MK-Bay I got mine from WWW.rustoleum.co.UK
Started off with thinners and a small 750ml can, will get another at some point!
The 750ml with approx 10 to 20% thinners did three coats on the cargo floor
