Lets see your awnings.

  1. Bought one of these second hand and it has cut my stress levels by about 90% as it is fully ready inc pegs in under 10 mins and highly recommend it as an extra storage area on your late bay! They seem to be discontinued now but can still be found on ebay under the term Quest Elite Instant Motor Home Awning

  4. When I was coming home it was late, getting dark and hissing it down, the mood I was in they could have been giving them away for free and I would not heve been interested, but thanks for the info

  5. PM me i am interested

  6. I've spent far too long thinking about all kind of options! I do like the idea of a wind out thing, but don't know if I want to spend so much.

I don't have a built-in fridge or cooker in the van, my partner likes a fridge when away for long trips so need somewhere to store that really - although I have just sent the fridge back.

Id be ok with a pop up festival type tent, just to store crap in.

I've got the khyam motordome sleeper. Thought I may as well get a few extra bedrooms, but it was a rubbish idea as it just makes it too big.

I used to love pulling up, popping the roof and cracking open a beer. Then moving to another campsite with no thoughts of taking tent down packing stuff up etc.

  7. I like it. I'll see if I can get her to do the same!

    Fire inside the awning?

  8. Quality, definitely a keeper.

My partner Is a legend really. I'm happy that she can handle a week+ camping, not many can.

Before our last trip she made Thai green curry, fajitas and a veggie chilli, froze them and took with us. Best food I've ever eaten camping!

  9. The trick is to just get really stressed about it the first time, and do it really saggy. Works a treat, yeah see my picture earlier, got a wood burner in ours.

  12. Right then, the good old awning debate. And I know all about it because we've spent the best part of a year having it ourselves!!

The best solution? Buy a sun canopy AND an awning. Going out for the day or a one night stop over with a 90%+ chance of good weather? Take the canopy. The one we bought from NLAVW is excellent and fits perfectly to the bus. Well worth it and gives you a bit more space.

Going away for 2+ nights? Take an awning. If you play your cards right you'll find something that isn't a ball ache to put up and can give you the vital extra storage without taking up far too much room. But which one?

Well in our case we read every thread on here, went an looked at some and ended up spending more than we intended on a Vango Airbeam Kela II. First time we put it up took over an hour!! We messed about with trying to attach it to the bus, made a mess of pegging it out and didn't really follow the instructions to the letter. What a waste of money we thought.

After a couple of times though we had it down to a fine art - bag to fully pegged in 20 mins and deflated and unpacked in about the same including the ground sheet. Those sorts of timings do make it a viable option for throwing together for a couple of nights stay. We were almost for selling it but are glad we persevered.

Oh and don't even bother with the figure 8/kador carry on. But a pole and clamp set (and some rubber to protect the gutters where the clamps will sit).

Here's a couple of pics of both the awning and the canopy.

  13. Always best to put it up then move to van fit connection to van fig 8 or pole then move awning away till taught then peg , i put little clamp on end of fig 8 each end when its peeeeing hard or very windy but normally not needed if taught .

  14. Takes my wife and i to put up the jk retro awning in 30 minutes, simple to put up because the poles are coloured coded.
Its suits the bus and has plenty of room, the only silly thing is the groundsheet doesnt go right up to the sliding door?

  15. Yeah it is nice barn, nylon ones just don't compare. We still sleep in the van, the kids get the warm tent :) just lets us know where your staying, we'll make sure we get there before you ready to set up totes :) while me and you have a beer :)

  16. Which colour one donyou have. Ive got a green one and wanted an orange one!

  17. I got a blue one.Missus says it goes well with the green bus,the new ones are green, might be a bit too much green?
Does your ground sheet go up to your sliding door?

  18. I cant remember. Ive only used it once and that was last year.

  19. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

The worst thing about awnings is taking them down in the rain so you have to put them up again when you get home to dry them out. What a ballache, I'm glad I don't need one any more. :)

  20. When theres nowhere big enough at home to put it up to dry out its a bit of a PITA. Not got much grassed garden and the missus isn't too keen if i try to put it up in the flower beds.

There was a smashed up T4 with a fiamma f45 awning in my local scrappy.
Passed it by as i didn't think it would work with the westy pop top until i found this piccy. Its gone now. :(
