Jaywick - How did it get that bad?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by top banana racing, Feb 8, 2015.

  1. with respect, I think a sense of pride and self esteem is almost entirely dependent on the circumstances you find your self in.
    Gang culture springs to mind.

I may be wrong, but I expect that you and I share similar notions of what constitutes achievement....decent house, fulfilling job, nice car, holiday etc....for others it may stretch to having enough money left over for a couple of pints on Saturday, or owning the hardest dog in the street....it's all relative

Yes, I was quite wrong when Iwrote my comment about sterilizing the women.

I should of course have written.....

"Offer to give the women AND MEN 200 fags and a crate of Stella if they agree to get sterilized.

In fact, after thinking about it, for a woman it's a bigger operation so we should throw in an iPhone 6 as well for them.

  3. and we must stop all women from dressing provocatively in public...rich or poor ;)

The bottom line is the days when strong communities were forged are long gone. Local Mills provided work (however menial) for virtually everyone....women gave up work as soon as they had children (more jobs available) In short, those people lived under a benign (?) dictatorship....everyone, aside from the foremen, managers, etc. earned approximately the same wage....status among your peers was even...
We'd like all the positive human attributes those communities fostered but without having to trudge t'mill everyday (including Saturdays). Women want to work...expect to work...we all want space to park our cars, extra bedrooms for when people stay over....if I suggested we build new mills with cramped housing within walking distance, how many folk would take up the vacancies?
As things stand, a benefit system that makes it financially expedient not to work is ridiculous...hopefully the new Universal Credit will go some way to change this....but I for one would spend the money on paying a living wage to Mothers and/or Fathers to stay at home and raise children properly until mid primary school age.....our communities would thrive:thumbsup:

It does make me grimace when you see someone with 4 kids in her mid 20's and single.

Sometimes there are plainly multiple fathers and why the ***** aren't the Child Maintenance people nailing them ballbags to a cross? Even if they are on benefits so what? They pay, then we don't have to pay out twice.

Do blokes that have several kids with different women pay less or more with each additional one?

  5. If you own the place you live in, or you have a decent lease (not the standard 6 months) then it's likely you will look after the place more. why look after somebody else's place and if you, moan about the state of the place you're out. Homeless. Try it.

The rent on those chalets in Jaywick would probably make your eyes water. Artificially high to scam the council. Benefit Money going to pay mortgages elsewhere and to property firms. Open your eyes people, the tenants you see are victims, made powerless by crappy housing policy, and jacked up house prices.

Slagging them off is like kicking someone when they're down.

When I were a lad, as Vanorak pointed out earlier, it was £50 for doing Nothing or £75 for working a crap job. BUT you could rent a flat or a bedsit and take the landlord to a fair rent tribunal if you thought it was too expensive.
Now it seems you need so much money for rent, with no recourse to any judging of fairness, you can't live on a crap job and will end up having your earnings topped up with some benifit or other. I'm surprised anyone works at all in these circumstances. Either wages are too low or living costs are too high. Where people cannot support themselves by working full time, something is wrong.

90% of new build houses are bought by landlords and the welfare state my well pay their mortagages for them. That's more of your taxes heading towards the better off.

If I was in rented accommodation I'd look after it as if it was my own. I think it's something to do with having been bought up properly. Just like I don't vandalise things or chuck rubbish in the street.

People like those on that programme last night aren't victims at all. They're happy as pigs in Marmite with their zero responsibilities, zero accountabilities, and £2400 a month.

  10. Yep...'cos artificially inflating average earnings ALWAYS works to the betterment of everybody ;)
During Hitler's reign as chancellor, folks were taking their wages home in a wheel barrow...in the end, the wheel barrow was worth more than the paper it contained.

maybe Diamond Dave has an ulterior motive....can't possibly think what it is....same with the pension bung...what could possibly be behind a notional handout to specific voting groups:thinking:

haven't you heard? there's an election soon...... i heard him today and just shook my head, i'm very very disheartened with the voting system - i'm not "into" politics by any means but i enjoy making my mark and the excitement of the votes coming in (i sat up all night last time) but for the 1st time ever i have no idea who to vote for.

But that's just the same as labour doing nothing about the Pakistani child molesting rape squads up north because they wants their votes, simple facts really

  13. you could well be right....

  14. Lovely word victim...no responsibility at all for their actions...just expect the council to stump up "entitlement". I rather think it would be hard to "scam" the local Valuation Office as to the value of those properties especially when claiming housing benefit. If you really want to see "official" dumping of problem families go to Margate. They get people shipped there from the London Boroughs and Newcastle. One way train ticket..problem solved

  15. I'm hoping, for the first time in a long while, people will actually vote for the party that most represents their views....

unfortunately i don't think there is such a party, the "sit on the fence party" are all moulding into 1 colour.

Most people from where I'm from would vote in a dead donkey if it had a red rosette on it, so if like you say, they should vote for who really represents their views, UKIPs gonna stroll it

You have no idea what your talking about.

I am a private landlord and, against advice, I decided to let a DSS tenant rent one of our houses. The rent paid is set by the council, not the landlord.
It's a rate decided by where it is and the number of bedrooms and is actually LESS than I could charge otherwise.

The rent is paid from the DSS to the tenant and its up to them to pass it on to the landlord, me.

They didn't, after months of expensive solicitors letters and court appearances I finally managed to get them evicted. I found out later that the council had actually advised them to sit tight until they were evicted by the court. All the council were doing was leaving the problem to me to deal with.

When I finally managed to get possession of my house I hadn't been paid any rent at all for six months and they left the house in a terrible state.

All in all my decision to give them the benefit of the doubt cost us thousands so don't start telling me about money grabbing landlords who are milking the system.

By the way you can imagine my answer if someone on benefits wants to rent a house from me now.
