i turned off the internet whilst watching this last night as i didn't want to post regretful stuff whilst angry, this country needs to get a grip, you can't tell me any of these people actually contribute in any way to society, they only leech off it, i've no idea how it needs fixing but why do governments keep paying out for people who have no intention of working? it's not a vote loser surely? i scrape by on 25k a year and claim nothing and i've always worked, i'm in the wrong game.
    yours, cross rugeley.

whilst you speak the truth, my issue is more with people who choose not to work and not contribute because they are better off by not working, fixing the tax dodging bigwigs won't sort that, i have umbridge with lazy people.

  4. It's a great community, they all steal from each other, fight with each other, get *******ed with each other and then breed with each other.

Is this any worse than us paying the wage bills of profit making large companies via top-up benifits? The £xx/week is going to be same for many of these people while the shareholders get cheap labour subsidised by you and I and fat profits for pension companies that own them. Fine if you have private pension no doubt.

    Exactly that.
Cap benefits below the minimum wage and it'll become a much less appealing lifestyle choice.

  7. Let's not forget that for most of them housing benefit is the biggest bill to the taxpayer. They are not home owners. Yes most of those sheds and chalets will be rented out by landlords, for small fortunes to tenants. Name your price, the taxpayer picks it up.

It should be called landlord subsidy not benefit.

Why not attack the slum landlords who benefit from this? Not such an easy target.

  8. My view on this is: If you had foot cancer you wouldn't deal with the ingrown toenail first.

Deal with the bigger problem (tax avoidance, multi home owners, etc) this will generate enough income to update infrastructure, keep NHS safe, proper mental health service, provide opportunities to all (more apprenticeships, support manufacturing etc) and start building social housing again.
Then you can start dealing with the people conditioned to live off the state - provide them opportunities to help themselves before any knee-jerk reactions.

Unfortunately the most vunerable people in society (disabled, mentally ill) are those least likely to be affected by any cuts to benefits. This isn't right.

No-one is saying the scroungers are the only ones that need dealing with, but like it or not, they are part of the problem.
The whole system needs a top to bottom overhaul.

  10. Yeah agreed baysearcher, I didn't say otherwise.

Unless we follow the French revolution's lead we won't overhaul the system as required.

So we should be prioritising the problems and dealing with them. Tax would bring in the most money and so have a giant impact as it can create jobs, enable social.housing once again amongst lots of other things.

  13. Agree about the tax avoidance thing but try motivating your staff who earn between 16 and 24 k after they have seen crap like that. They pay taxes, possibly some will have some form of benefit but they pay national insurance and most pay into a pension scheme. I.e. Responsible working people who contribute to society! Unfortunately natural selection is broken as these lazy do nothing scroungers are no use to society. Neither will they ever be, nor their offspring. In respect of the Tax dodging leeches then they are at least creating wealth, providing jobs etc. Their employees at least pay tax and NI. Not condoning tax avoidance - far from it but surely that too is a distraction from what is wrong with our society. The de-industrialisation experiment of Thatcherism has taken us to a point possibly of no return. I don’t believe that these analogies about toe nails and cancer demonstrate anything. Both sides need sorting and its time we got on with it. Purge the benefit system and get it back to being a safety net for honest people - working or otherwise. Incentivise people to work (indeed create some bloody jobs for them). Get the uber-riche to pay their damned taxes and start managing the country for the benefit of all.

How can people have any pride or self-esteem if all they do all their life is take free money from the state (at unsustainable levels). The job of government isn’t to fix one thing at a time. When your canvassed by people that want your vote give them a bloody hard time on both issues. I’m surprised no one has blamed this on Europe or immigrants. One good thing to come out of this is to demonstrate the larger proportion of doley dossing lazy idle scumbag leaches are indeed home grown.

  15. Thing is that town looks disgusting ,why not let them work for their benefits ,start cleaning it up?
Would get them out and make them feel like they're doing something responsible ,give them some pride?

  18. I don’t believe that these analogies about toe nails and cancer demonstrate anything - it demonstrates that like anything in life you have to prioritise things. Now I agree we can do more then one thing at a time BUT still needs to be prioritised - provide a cost/benefit analysis and tackle the things which have the biggest impact (note that morale, incentives can be included in this).

  19. Or people that only achieve in a linear fashion need a kick up the jacksie and need to learn to multi-task. Or indeed the government and its civil service need leadership that pushes them to get the job done. Prioritisation without defining resource limitations is simply a distraction from getting on with the matter in hand. Noone has mentioned resources - or lack of them. I dont believe we cant sort both these issues out and naval gazing doesnt get the job done.
