As Rick says, they're all the same, and none of them can realistically be expected to actually do what they put in their manifestos.
Worryingly, that Scunthorpe Farrage is likely to do dangerously well.

  3. IMO it all started going wrong when banks started holding peoples wage packets and bosses where encouraged to pay working classes monthly , mmmm ,when i got paid weekly cash with tax deducted ,as a lad ,i learned to make it last a week or i went without BUT a week soon went by .
No credit cards or living beyond our means , if you couldnt afford it ,you didnt have it or you mended what you had!!
If you didnt have a deposit you couldnt get HP, the bank manager knew you and probably your family , he decided if you could have a "personal loan ".
Now with the greed driven society we live in, people get credit cards , mortgages etc etc that they cant afford ,even food is bought on credit , how many people actually own their new cars ,sofas ,wide screen tvs etc etc these days ?? SO if you cant get a job to feed this greed/want, what do you do .......................................................go without?? drown your sorrows ??
Is someone who has a massive debt on their credit cards any better , chances are someone else will have to pick up the tab in the end ,not the banks thats for sure , yep you the customers , and so it goes on ........................................................ how many people can actually afford (that is using their own money )to get a job that doesnt pay the bills ?? Rents that are higher than some mortgages ?? The recipe doesnt look that good does it .

I think it's worse than that, I'd say you can rely on them not too. Manifesto's are so easily forgotten once you have your face in the pig swill. I don't see farage as any worse than most politicians though.

  5. Funnily enough, the new Universal Credit was going to be scuppered simply because they couldn't find a way to link earnings to top up benefits (like working tax credits etc.) on a weekly basis. Previously credits/benefits were figured out annually, but that didn't reflect the true nature of people's incomes or working habits....some weeks they'd earn more, some weeks less....sometimes they may be out of work for a month or two etc.
HMRC developed an IT programme that linked real time income to taxation, and the Govnt. have nicked the software to apply it to weekly earnings....potentially, this could save billions in overpaid benefits and administration, and more importantly,it should ensure that people who are in need of credits receive them promptly....let's hope it works

My last tenant was on dss, but decided to buy grandkids pressies with the rent money. I went to the council and told them she owed three months rent and was out on the streets on Monday. They told me they could pay direct if she agreed. I went round to her armed with the paper she had to sign and told her she was out on Monday if the rent wasn't to me direct. She signed and left a couple of months later.

  7. I see Farage as a neo-nazi, masquerading as a man of the people....his party will self-destruct....but I agree...he's just as good/bad as the rest of the current crop IMO.

I think Caroline Lucas is a rising star.....I also think Russel Brand speaks more sense than anyone else atm (I used think he was a twit)

You heartless beast, think about the poor little grandchildren's faces if they didn't get a present. How you can sleep at night I just don't know.

  14. you can't say that someone who can't work for whatever reason has no morals or pride if they accept benefits...supposing a single parent broke their leg and couldn't work for six weeks....is it immoral to accept some form of state subsidy to tide the family over until they could return to work?
The problem as @Moons stated earlier is that the Welfare system was established to address instances of poverty and hardship...'a safety net'...it was never meant to be a lifestyle choice....Nye Bevan would turn in his grave

I think a less comfortable thought if you extrapolate my thinking is this - we are going against nature.

No eco system I know of supports members indefinitely if they are unwilling to help themselves - buffalo will swarm around an injured adult or a new calf, they won't stand there with it if it's unwilling to move. Higher thinking species do not support those in the group that only take, and won't give - they are cast aside.

As I get older I despair at man's tyranny over the natural world - we literally don't give a Marmite.

As the NHS comes under the cosh - who do you support, a person in their 40's that works and contributes over someone with the same health issues that doesn't.

At some point - that needs to be addressed I suspect.

I don't think anyone is saying that. The benefit system is a safety net, it shouldn't be a comfy hammock. It needs to be administered in a robust but fair manner.
Take the 'bedroom tax' as an example. We keep being told about the unfairness because an elderly couple, one of whom is very ill have a spare room which is used by a carer to sleep in twice a week to provide a respite for them. It's obviously unfair to charge them the bedroom tax. If it was administered locally the assessment officer would take a look at their circumstances and decide they had a good reason to have the extra bedroom.

  18. i was a single parent , but i was taught to live to my means and put buy for a rainy day , when i worked hard and earnt more i didnt spend it all or buy things i didnt need ,most people would be shocked on what you can get by on if you really want/ have too. Nothing wrong with helping others if they are prepared to help themselves or giving help to a charity if people really care , but give them food or clothes not money .

  19. I think I'm going to live in my van, just with the dogs, a long way from everyone else-life would be so much easier!
    Ps don't tell nicola !
