So I'm a bit bored being stuck at home and not being able to drive at the moment - another couple of weeks signed off work, and sensibly I shouldn't attempt driving for at least a week of that. I've done jigsaws, I've watched the cricket, I've walked the dog a lot, and I've generally been the good little patient. But the camper needed the gear selector plate swapped and fettled with, so I've done that carefully and it seems okay. And I installed a remote solar controller for the panels, and that's working alright. But apart from cleaning it and polishing the slightly shabby interior paintwork, I've kind of run out of do-able jobs. So I remembered I had one of those groovy BigFoot accelerator pedals and thought I'd fit that up..... but it doesn't seem to fit over my standard throttle pedal.... anyone got one? How do they fit? The gap between the narrow screw mounts is 5.5cm, and my original pedal is 6cm.... seems like a dodgy design fault, or am I missing something? Also I noticed I've not got a nice rubber gaitor boot thingy on my handbrake. But I'm guessing fitting one would involve taking the handbrake mechanism apart to slide it over the top? Is that worth the hassle? As you can gather, I'm looking for things to occupy me. If not, I'll just start watching daytime TV or buying more jigsaw puzzles on Amazon. Help!
@Mark Darby is the expert on Big Feet, but I suspect he made it himself. Yes, you will have to take the whole lever off. No, it’s not worth it. Have you washed your curtain hooks recently?
Nothing is worth unhooking those teeny tiny little curtain hooks! Looks like it’s Daytime TV then.....!
Ooooh not with my knees.... Apart from that, if I hear a bloody tin whistle or a bodhran drum anywhere near my decking, there may be bloodshed, so if you see Michael Flattley riverdancing his way towards Fordingbridge, you better warn him
Get a second hand guitar, if you ain’t already got one got one. ‘It’s only 3 chords’. That will let you play to thousands of songs. Should have one down, in 3 weeks Use power chords, and it will 3 days! Gotta look after that mind, while your body looks after itself.
Its a pin with a cotter pin through it at the top of the lever according to the book. I cheated and cut a piece of butyl pond liner to make a surround. I suppose you could always make a boot up with a zip in it like a wetsuit...
Cotter pins through other pins sounds like a recipe for trouble..... maybe something rubber with a zip would do it
Aren’t you supposed to be in bed or something? I get squeamish just thinking about stitches popping...
I need something to clean the age off of the roof lining that continues down the post. That's a good one.
Fitted one to mine a couple of months ago, a 10 min job. Just a case of removing spring #15 and pin #16 and slide the boot down the lever
Hope you are well on the road to recovery, but remember - you will be back in work at some point, then you will look back and wonder why you didn't just sit back and relax. So read plenty of books, spend lots of time at the coast, even go and fly a kite! And get a telescope for star gazing, stay up late and sleep when you feel like it, not when your alarm tells you to !
Polish all the chrome as it could do with a gentle touch and don't forget that the alloy jealousies also need constant attention.
I’ve got one of those handbrake gaiters! I think I bought it at Vanfest circa 2015 and it’s still knocking about somewhere as it wasn’t quite the simple job I thought! Obviously now that I’m more mechanical I would do it but I can’t find it have you got a freezer? You could cook lots of meals so that when you’re back at work you don’t have to get your dinner ready when you get home. Or, you could clear it out in case Mr Flatley ends up on your decking
Fair point, the next two weeks will probably go quickly, and I’ll not get the opportunity for this amount of time off again until I get sacked or retire! I also need to see if I can get a lift out to a garden centre with an aquatic section..... Buzz, one of my fish, died last week, and now Neil is just hanging around at the top of the tank looking lonely and Hayley won’t come out of the flower pot. I need to get a new Buzz and hope to fool them into thinking it’s just like Bobby Ewing in Dallas.
