You know I said midnight snow globe.....

  6. I couldn't see much in the oil ,no lumps just the gunge on the plate. don't know what size oil pump but its made by schadek.....
    i'll continue to strip it.
my main problem is where I live I don't have many contacts of people who can do things like regrinds/line bores etc
I'm hoping @Alex VW Heritage can put in a good word with the xmas competition and I can get new parts.
it looks like I will have to travel to get things fixed..

In the post is fine. I have had loads turn up on pallets.. there are options.

  8. I wish it was that easy, I hope you are lucky!

Whereabouts are you in the country? I may be able to suggest people to help.

  9. Do have a good think about the cost of the parts and your time doing a rebuild versus the cost of getting a replacement engine,

    https://www.vwheritage.com/shop/211...e100cam-ssp/?crumbStartPage=1&crumbStartRow=1

1641cc, So £1995 retail, 10% off all December, so £1795.50 for a Reman 1641cc with a year warranty, but we would need your old engine back to clear the £300 Surcharge

(Our 1641cc's are not drilled for full flow)

    OR

    Brand New

    https://www.vwheritage.com/shop/211...ange-needed/?crumbStartPage=1&crumbStartRow=1

1776cc So £2999 retail, 10 % off all December, so £2700 for a brand new unit and you keep your old engine to sell for parts or rebuild and then sell?

Bonus being is it is all backed up by a warranty etc.

I know we are not the cheapest but I truly believe in you pay for what you get on engines.

There are not so many threads about our motor's on Latebay, but loads of folks over on Earlybay forum I have sold motors to that have been in a good few years so well worth talking to them.

Do feel free to email me alex@vwheritage.com if you need any advise or someone to bounce idea's off.

Good luck with it which ever way you decide to go.

    All my best,

    Alex

Rebuilt Porsche power with ALL ancillaries and 4 bolt swap and reputable engine builder or

  13. bit of spare time this afternoon so got the engine dropped and onto the bench......one thing is broken... my breaker bar:mad:
so fly wheel is still attached.
some have said it sounded like big end bearing, when you move the flywheel you can feel/hear slight movement. i'll keep stripping bits off it when I get some time but I am working everyday till xmas.

    Forget the flywheel.
    Off with the heads
    Pull off barrels
    Have a waggle.
    If that's inconclusive (or not)
    Off with the pistons
    Off with the conrods.
