  3. One does wonder like when we have droughts , we England and you Australia are surrounded by water . Brains and money ! need to be used this is not a one off ting . I am not trying to be rude but water is the thing that will help stop this . Store or have use when required . They can irrigate when it suits them so .................... I know people will say it will evaporate but let the gods have it to give back init ................

There's a desalination plant in Sydney and is about as much use as tits on a bull. The state government mothballed at the end of the last drought and it's taking 4 - 5 years to reactivate and only will produce a fraction of the water Sydney needs.

Out here it's mainly due to the distance most of the grazing country is from the coast.
It's been discussed for generations, but in reality is not feasible or even cost effective.

You seem to have your fair share of natural lakes locally anyway, and big uns at that!

  8. It’s always money init . The crying shame is all those burning trees could be grown like oases and give water back . Australia is too big for its own good really ,,, distance costs soooo much money . Dig more mines and bury more water or triple x :D

We do, and they are used as the source of the Australian hydroelectric power, also drinking water for the surrounding towns and farms.

Our idiotic government is only interested in mines as a source of revenue, the P.M. is pro coal and a climate change denialist.

  12. I think the same surely the use of high pressure pumps drawing seawater could drench the coast or even the use of fireboats to spray the shores I know we are sat here wet cold and safe but every little helps

  14. I saw the Attenborough programme on Australia and apparently there were many mountain ranges in thencentre and north until tectonic activity and erosion squished em. The mountains created relief rain. Without them the centre turned to desert.
Now, we have a problem with what to do with all the world’s plastic. My cunning plan is to ship it all to giant melting plants in Aus - to build new mountains. Voila - two eco problems solved in one fell swoop!

I think you might win a Nobel Peace Prize/OBE etc for that fab idea! Quick patent it before the makers of Tracey Island said they were there first :)

  16. Many of us would have watched the programs on Quest about Australian truckers, gold diggers and opal miners and the railways, we see the interior is harsh and dry and when it rains its a wash out. The bush country is tinder dry and the drought has dried out the forests of Eucalyptus and Pine. So fire was always a risk.

After the fires are gone, the bush and forests and wildlife will slowly recover as it always has done. But the people may not recover easily and lessons will have to be learned.
