ours was two installements of 1000 odd euros ,the french say mixing concrete etc to make your shed into house inpacts the enviroment... If you buy a barn ,stable ,etc there is added cost of water supply, electric etc ,our electric was another 1000 odd ,then there is the septic tank etc... Just the little things could ask yourself why did'nt a buy one already done... The good thing with mine is that is amongst houses that are selling for 180 k ,but every village has a top ceiling ,ask more and you hope a green Anglaise will come along...
Just an update... The friend of a friend first stayed at a campsite at Cognac ,they worked 3 hours a day each for five days for the rent ,unfortually the owners had another couple doing the same and was more "clicky" (their jobs were less nice)and they decided to look for somewhere else and found another campsite in the Dordogne area ,they really like it and is much better than the first one ,the terms are the same but just better and nicer... In September they have a "housesit" for 7 months... Me and the "friend" are going to a scooter rally in September ,so life looks good... Only problem they have is car Insurance ,they need an address to get insurance .... I did expect the worse , but they seem to be doing ok.... So sell up and bum around France etc it does work...
There are loads of motorhomes doing just the same in the UK too. Easy life muddling along stepped out of the rat race like many would like to do but daren't. Much easier if you think you have little or nothing to loose.
thats what my parents have done for the last11 years rented their house out then spend there time in the south of france/spain for the winter then work on a campsite in the uk for some of the summer.
I can see the appeal ,specially if you have a house or piece of land or a big bank balance ,if you decided it is not for you... he who dares...
