I have a friend

  1. Your English friend is a bit weak isnt he? He has worries because he wants his own space and doesnt want anyone dumping on him and probably sponging off him and if they move in he wont be able to get rid of them.

Tell him to man up! Its his life isnt it?

I have moved to and lived in other countries in my life and didnt have or need anyone to sponge off.

We rented, thats what your friends friend should do.

The sensible thing is for your friends friend to rent out their home in England and try living in France for a while. If they dont like it, they can move back to their house in England.

  2. No , I think he is just easy going and likes helping people ,especially like seeing a friendly face in a foreign country ,plus it will be great to see a old mate an spend some time with them ...(so he says)

I think that is not an option ,the house has to go...And who says they are sensible..

Maybe you could find a "rustic" shed for your friend to rent? :)

:). No, I really meant a casa rustica or French equivalent. Maybe yourself or @tuesday_wildchild could find a deserted property in one of your little French villages, offer local, pref working/living away frenchies a peppercorn rent saying it's for storage and then move your friends friends in saying they can have a taste of the real France :) win win situation

  6. I do understand. Perhaps your English friend could organise a rental for his friend.

Being easygoing and welcoming is fine but you said your friend had worries! To me that means he doesnt want them to move in with him, which is what will happen.

Presumably the friend coming from England doesnt speak French, and may always look to your friend for someone to talk to.

  13. Might as well throw your money down the well ,no profit doing up French houses...:hattip:

My friends friend has definatly not expressed any interest doing up a place of his own ,he just has'nt got the skills or the motorvation...

Trouble is my friend is always working and his friend and wife will be left with my friends misses as chaparone ,if they were pro active to do something or have a plan it would be ok...
