Fuel shortages.

1. Remember when the EU drivers were stranded on the motorway at Dover with no food or facilities relying on handouts and unable to get back
I don’t think they are likely to rush back here to help with this lot any time soon

3. There was a Polish lorry driver on the radio this morning, he basically said we can stick our driving jobs up our arse. He said a dog is for life not Christmas, only want us when in trouble then will be told to bugger off. He had it about right I reckon.

5. Happens all over the world in so-called affluent countries.

Menial jobs in Israel are done by Palestinians from next door, thousands cross the border every day, even though they despise each other.

Some of you make it sound like the EU lorry drivers were here out of altruism.
I think you'll find they were only here to help themselves.
Open borders are all very well until all the lorry drivers, bricklayers and nurses leave the poorer countries in the lurch looking for higher wages elsewhere. It leaves the poorer Eu countries royally messed up and running on subsidies and loans.

8. Yes indeed what do you expect anyone to do people need to earn money wherever
It was all very well when lads from uk wanted to work in Europe
I can imagine bitter people stamping out poison emails from some random river somewhere
I suppose free movement doesn’t apply to people who live on boats who don’t want to be part of the system
until something like this arises and for some reason and they all of a sudden
Have plenty to say ppfff

9. Of course they were only here to help themselves, same as any Brit buggering off to work anywhere in the world - chasing money - can't be many other reasons for residing in the middle east.

The point about leaving other countries worse off is largely down to doctors, engineers etc coming here, not lorry drivers, as our grotesque consumer economy was virtually unique before Covid.

Think the resentment and suspicion they received makes it less likely for them to return, especially as the Visa embargo is due to end on Christmas eve!

10. They came here for the money, same as all the trades working on new builds.

I worked in Oman many years back and went for the tax free money, no other reason. As well as the money, they provided accommodation, expenses and travel costs and holiday pay, that's the way to attract workers. There are thousands of Brits working in other countries as we have thousands of all nationalities working here. Nothing wrong with that.

In my view our Government have shown almost colonial arrogance towards the EU HGV drivers in reluctantly offering short term visas to allow them to come back and help us out of our self created mess and on December 24th tell them to bugger off without even a thank you.

No doubt when the new builds stop due to manpower shortages, Boris will offer more short term visas. Its insulting.

Says you, not me.

Who's bitter? Apart from you by the sound of it.
You're weird, your imagination is running riot. lol
I've never worked out of the UK. I stayed here and created jobs for which I paid my employees well over the going rate - 150%. Is that not being part of the system?
How about you? I expect you'd be looking for employees you could take advantage of and pay the least to - EU migrants from poor countries as you approve of that? Sod their own nations huh?

I think Poptop2 has said it all before really.

Poor conditions, treated badly (not by everyone) poor hours etc etc.

Wife’s uncle got attached in his cab a few years back. Can’t remember now if he’s now in a home or since passed away.

To many keyboard warriors....

too many idiots filling up needlessly. I know a ***** who called me and said I got half a tank but I need fuel as got a week off, where you going says I, nowhere says he, but might go up north as I got a week off. He won’t go anywhere.

There's not really a shortage of tanker drivers It's a specialised job so tanker drivers have to do more training but the big advantage is they go to work put in a shift then go home after their shift no camping in laybys
