And breathe .... probably about to increase at the end of this week when furlough finally comes to an end.
And there lies the problem....a job is a job, nobody should be unemployed when job vacancies exist... and then benefits could be used as intended, as a top up of wages, not as an alternative.
I got some last night on the way home from work. All very civilised, no Jerry cans, no queues…. Hopefully some semblance of sanity will return for a bit although I won’t hold my breath…
I came back from hols in the Bus on Sunday, literally on fumes, having visited 4 petrol stations on the way back. None had any fuel. I saw Tesco take a delivery yesterday afternoon and instantly the whole site filled up with cars to the point where they had more staff out directing traffic than inside. They even had to turn both normal driving lanes into a duel one way lane system so those who didn't come for fuel could get out. Lots of horns beeping etc. I still need to get fuel for the Bus but I darnt risk going in case I run out of fuel whilst queuing or they have none and then I've used my final drop. Take my fuel jerry can you say? No thanks. Don't like the lynch mobs either. I've seen the news.
It's more difficult to sign on compared with 40 years ago - I suspect once you've jumped through all the hoops you dare not sign off for what might be a short term job and if that job has no prospect of wage increases above the benefit level or promotion, again - why would you bother? The system in broken. There used to be shame attached to being unemployed and "not pulling your weight". Now it's a career choice.
..I’ve been thinking to myself..media these days are really a powerful tool..so maybe instead of causing panic saying about shortage of fuel or tanker/lorry drivers they start mention about shortage of jobs?..so maybe ppl start to queue for jobs instad..well at least some of them lazy/beneffits sucking ones?..it would benefit the economy for sure but dunno.. You need an ADR licence. Got mine years ago and seldom used it. It is better pay on fuel takers, but I’ll say one word ‘ Buncefield Get yours here https://www.actioncpctraining.co.uk...D1kLZ3-VFdKcViL6lXcQ5Bq2inK2d_gRoCmzwQAvD_BwE
Just nipped down Tescos and filled up as im away on a course for a couple of days and the bus is my transport. only a short queue (3 cars in front of me at the pump). I must have been lucky or its calming down. That said i passed two garages that were shut on the way and now have E7.5 in the bus as they only had E10.
I drove up to Scotland on Thursday before seeing the announcement, noticing the prices shooting up on the motorway I was concerned about getting back. All Hail Airdrie, no problems at all. Back in the south now and queues everywhere.
..I went past quite few petrol stations this morning..most of them didn’t have any diesel or both petrol and diesel..the little bp near me didn’t have any fuel for a few days got delivery yesterday so ppl were queueing but went past it today and again..no fuel at all..thinking, everybody keeps repeating like a mantra ‚theres no fuel shortages in the UK’ well if this panic buying carries on, there may be soon..and what’s then?..those thugs will go out and start to steal fuel out of our cars?..seeing those scenes of some tools punching themselfs no doubt they would..to make it worse..what in case of real emergency?...think we all know now..hmm..maybe a good time now to go back to lift weights and street fighting training?..or perhaps Im being too pesimistic?..but am I?... benefits should never be used to 'top up' poor wages as this just permits companies to pay inadequate wages and allow the poor taxpayer to take up the slack. Still they've also got zero hours contracts legalised and don't pay enough tax so getting the taxpayer to pay a portion of their wages bill is just good business sense. also I've still got half a tank in the van so its local camping for us for a while.
Remember that tanker that went over back in the early seventies around Hull somewhere ...a Guy big J unit Hauling for JET . Boy did that just go up in flames , can't remember if the driver was ok .
I think you might find the US truckers union wouldnt take kindly to foreigners taking jobs. However, I think part of the problem in the UK is that if you provide somewhere "open" with toilets etc. then it gets invaded by people who decide to set up camp there, and you have to apply to the courts to evict them.
I meant if someone took a part time job as opposed to a full time one .... just about every shop/ restaurant has a job vacancy sign in their window ... and then there's the Christmas jobs.
