I’ve just had to park up and walk to the little Sainsbury’s near me as it’s next to a petrol station and the road is blocked with queuing cars  I’m actually a bit gutted as my Fiat is on the orange light and I wanted to visit the petrol station while I was there :(

fortunately I sat in a queue to put diesel in my work van yesterday as that was also on the orange light

  4. There's going to be a fair amount of commercial driver insurance claims soon then.

Not quite true but not far off

Tests will also be made shorter by removing the ‘reversing exercise’ element – and for vehicles with trailers, the ‘uncoupling and recoupling’ exercise – and having it tested separately by a third party. This part of the test is carried out off the road on a manoeuvring area and takes a significant amount of time. Testing such manoeuvres separately will free up examiner time, meaning they can carry out another full test every day.

  9. Deffo shown up how vulnerable just in time stuff is to any disruption in the chain. But we want our stuff NOW!

  10. If you think this is bad, wait for an asteroid impact or a super volcano event.

or worst still a shortage of Chocolate Hob Nobs. You’ll see the worst of humanity then.

Any business model working on "just in time" stocking levels has had this comming.
They have paid low wages treated staff like numbers and hid behind HR.

add to the fact going to uni is now normal and employers look down their noses at anyone who did not get into 30k of loans at a cash cow university that just curns out mediocre degrees.
We want it now and have a hissy fit when just eat are 10 mins late or Amazon don't stock that thing you want to buy at 2am.
Forgetting there are real people behind the curtain having their working day managed to the second......

And most of the euro drivers are earning the same at home so why work here away from families just sleep in a stinky layby.

    I feel better now :)

    Rubbish day at work lol

  12. Tbh I was blind sided by the whole thing. Do we have any idea how long or how much of an issue this is?

Woohoo! Found one garage that would let me have £20 worth of diesel :chewie:

  14. Hmm, judging by the massive fuel guzzling car he has he probably needs to be certain he can get to work all next week, after all it's not like he's an old retired man driving a small fuel efficient vehicle 30 miles a week........oh.

I found a garage in Skegness with shortish queue and was allowed £30 of diesel. It's an Esso one and it's expensive....but it's only money.

    Likewise.
I went to stick some petrol in the camper on Monday (having lost quite a bit all over the New Forest the week before!) and the local BP near work had run out of fuel.... I figured it was a one off, a random event. Filled up somewhere else. A few days later, and the world's gone mad!

What I don't understand though, the HGV driver shortage has been blamed for lack of food on supermarket shelves for... how long? Two months? More?
So how come it's only just now hit the supply chain to BP stations? (assuming other garage shortages are just panic buying issues?).

Some of the blame lies with supermarkets and this has been coming for a while now. In every area/town all the supermarkets have to have a branch because they make a huge profit and don't want their competitors to have any of it. So let's say a supermarket needs 3 lorry deliveries a day 'just in time ' and extra at say holidays/Christmas. Then another supermarket opens, another 3 lorries and this goes on and on but no-one thinks about where the drivers are coming from. Hence we now have a problem.

Tanker drivers are a different category all together. They already earn well, I don't think they do tramping (cab living). They do extra training and certification that I dont think many of the EU drivers here would have had.

The previous disruption to fuel supplies was due to strikes and blockades of depots by the loons from Countryside Alliance
