I've followed formula one since I was a kid.
    So who's your favourite driver?
Mine is and probably always will be James Hunt.
Mr Shumi is a close second and I met him in 2005 at Silverstone.

  8. Some great results for drivers and teams but.... George Russell bad luck and some. So wanted him to win. Best race for me for ages even though Russell didn't win.

  9. Major cock up
They tried to bring Lewis in for a precautionary tyre change a couple of races ago, but he said that it was too easy to make a mistake so he said No .
I think if he had been driving today he would have said No once again.

  10. That Merc pit stop was almost Ferrariesque in its comic awfulness. Got to feel for poor George, hopefully he gets another chance next weekend. Pleased for Perez though, finally got the result his talent deserves:thumbsup:

My all time favourite in terms of talent, modesty and mechanical sympathy is Jim Clark, favourite character is definitely James Hunt, followed by Graham Hill. Schumacher doesn't do anything for me, despite his prodigious talent, give me Fangio any time, closely followed by Surtees, Ascari and a whole host of drivers who swapped disciplines and excelled. Liking a driver isn't at all rational. If you go outside F1, you open it up to some real characters.

Glad I didn’t fall asleep when Russell looked like he was cruising to a win! WTF?!

Bottas shouldn’t be getting his contract renewed based on that head to head, Russell does look like he’s going to be able to mix it at the front with the next generation. Hope he gets a permanent step up.

    Ham + Rus 2022?

If I was Toto I'd be seriously looking for the backout clause in Bottas' contract. Russell was so gutted. He's in another class to Bottas though

Perez - absolutely incredible drive and well deserved (Mercedes error aside). How he hasn't got a seat for next year is incomprehensible

I thought Ocon's reaction to his 2nd place was humorous given that the top 6 drivers were effectively taken out of the race

    Bye bye Albon

For me it’s probably Button... the modern James Hunt playboy type in his early days, nearly out of the sport with Honda, world champion with Brawn, then gave Ham a run for his money in the McLaren. On top of that an affable chap and one of the genuine characters of the sport.

Plus his dad was a bit handy an old VW

  18. or.. if lewis had been in the same car on the same track he'd have been another half second faster? :p you can't really compare to someone who's not actually competed

  19. So, George doesn't fit in the car. only has tiny amount of practice, but still manages to qualify within a smidge of Bottas. Awesome.

Takes Bottas on track and gets to 8 seconds ahead which is a huge margin. Awesome again.

Mercedes team f-ups the pit stop and gives him the wrong tyres, has to stop again. Boo. BUT carves through the field and looks like he's going to get checo too for the win. Awesome once more!

    .. and the f1 gods intervene and he gets a puncture. I mean w t f! :)

What a great race, and a super result for Perez, exactly what he needs to help his chances getting a good drive for next year.

Did someone not too long ago on this thread say F1 had got boring and they didn't watch any more?
