I`m following this with great interest and it`s made me realise the propex i fitted under the back seat last year needs a damn good looking at .. It was just a `get it in there and see what needs sorting` job , and to be honest it`s just a dangerous lash up - thanks for the timely reminder
@Bertie the Bus . Not sure where your thinking of mounting your controller so as to be able to access when driving but as mines back on the bench I've had a play. Based on a discussion with propex interrupting the brown wire (assuming your wiring colours are correct) will allow remote control of the off function ie, it switches the heater off but allows it to run its cool down cycle. The controls panel would need to be in the on position. Making the brown wire by switch or timer (or remote if your feeling that way inclined, which I may be!) simply allows the heater to run at your preset level. I tried this last night and used an eberspacher timer and relay (as the timer only has a positive ie 12 volt output and you need a pair of no volt contacts to make and break the brown feed). So.. some options. Either run a pair of cables to a switch on the dash so you can simply switch it on or off or pick a feed up at the front and have the brown across the terminals of a relay. I would parallel that up with a switch to bypass the dash control (possibly a good idea with my timer option) as if you do use a timer or a remote method of switching (useful if your in bed and sick of the noise or for remote demisting/defrosting on a cold morning. Voila - control from the front with the option of a switch, timer or remote control.
I might just have to do this: http://www.lightinthebox.com/12v-2-...1636353.html?pos=ultimately_buy_1&prm=1.3.5.0
I understood it Basically, you need some wires connected to a switch in the front to be able to operate the Propex from the cab
Are you saying put a switch in the brown wire (add a relay if the cables are long) and you can turn the heater on and off (assuming the main control is left in the on position)
It's been a long day on the computer at work today & I'm internet grumpy. Off to chop up some logs soon.
Always! Nearly chopped a finger off with a bow saw though! Regarding the remote propex control, I just unbuckle @Mrs Busmonkey & send her into the back. She gets the kettle on at the same time. Safety first though, only when we're on a straight bit of road
I find the spring benders are actually better than the little pipe benders (below) for making close to 90 degreee radii....anything approaching 90 on the latter and the pipe tends to kink (esp. on 8mm) as they don't grip the pipe well enough to stretch it...great for repeat bends less than 90 though
That's what I thought id do with the other channel. Be interesting to see what the range is as nice to flick the lights on to guide you across the campsite in the dark! A phone app would be good. I wonder???
Phew..... Think I get the gist of it. I will have to sit down with pen and paper and try and get my my head round it. Might need your help at Techenders
Propex corner! lol. Im going remote with it. A fob on my keys and one on the dash. no wires! (in theory)
