F1 thread for 2012

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Baydreams, Mar 12, 2012.

  1. I'm not as excited as usual about this weekend's / the Bahrain GP. That's because, deep down, I feel the race shouldn't be taking place. Also, there's a risk of something bad happening too on Sunday. For example, there's no guarantee that a 'demonstrator' isn't going to be able to get on the track and run in front of a car. Imagine that.

it's a boring race anyway, but although i agree with you about the way bad things could happen, i also think the authorities are right, if you cancel things because of protests all the time then the protesters win, that said it's obvious to me that the country is run badly for the normal person and the protesters are within their rights to protest while the media scrum are there to gain more coverage, i guess it's no different to the way China/Korea and other less democratic countries are, sport and politics shouldn't mix but how to solve it is beyond me.

This race should'nt be taking place, people are getting killed, tortured and are witheld there rights by a murderous regime, this is gonna go down as a bad decision by the greedy berni ecclestone who is in the pay of these people, a few years back he was gonna cancel the british grand prix at silverstone because the track and pits were not up to the standards of these places, well lets all have no rights and let the government build him a new track instead off looking after the people who cant even go to the race

woody if the race didn't take place these things would still happen, in effect it may be a "good" thing because it is letting the world see that the country is run badly and it may end up going against the countries rulers?.

moons fair comment - same with the cricket in the past i guess, i still belive sport should unify rather than split views but, as i say i'm no polititcian, i think personally the race will go ahead but it will cause embarrasment and highlight the plight of the people of the country and end up helping their cause....

p.s i don't want to discuss politics no more so i'm bowing out, i don't understand enough to continue, i just like car races.

    Are Red Bull looking good?
    Or flattering to decieve? :-

Surprised that Rosberg isn't a wee bit higher, as for Teflonso not even bothering to put a time in ..... sorry I don't expect that sort of behaviour from one of the so-called grandees of F1

well done RB and congrats to Kimi & Lotus, great race by them...unlucky for JB....Mercs a little disappointing after last week, but championship looks good for this year, 4 races & 4 different winners...Spain in 3 weeks.. :)

yes a supprising race for sure, unlucky for Jenson and mclaren in general, the pit stop enquiry would be interesting to listen in on... expected more from mercedes, lotus did well and even though i'm not a fan i was willing kimi on, 3 week break now which is good as i really need to do some work of a weekend instead of sitting on my arse for 5 hours watching it.

Was surprised by the pace of the Lotus! good race for them.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Maclarens change their funky titanium hubs by the next race!! ;)

  16. It was OK. Apart from Vettel getting his bloody finger out again. If I ever meet him I must make sure I've got a pair of scissors on me ;)

Time to fire up the thread for this week, suprised nobody posted about the Mclaren farce yesterday along with the farce that has now become qualifing, teams not even running to save tyres? discrace! how long before we get tyres for qualifing only so the teams have a go at pole? the saturday show is a waste of my time at the moment i might start just watching the catch up highlights before the actual race and therefore just wasting sunday rather than part of saturday as well on the race weekend, i'm a diehard fan but even i'm getting fed up of the strategy game to get around the tyres in the sport. i predict a decent race for Kimi today - could we have the 5th different winner this season?

  18. Hamilton must be majorly fed up with his team - they don't seem to be able to get the basics right sometimes. Expect to see the same old Hamilton looking for other drives story in the press in the next couple of days then ::) Starting at the back for him will either make for a classic race with a lot of overtaking.......or he'll tag someone in 1st corner frustration and be out

Hamilton is a cry baby at the best of times, this track isn't the best for mass overtaking i very much doubt he will do much other than as you say wipe out someone in turn one, Mclaren do seem to be having a bit of a struggle with organisation since Sam Michael came from Williams, where as Williams seem to be on the up........

I think the rot is a lot higher than Sam Michael, things have been on a downward spiral since Ron Dennis left the running of the F1 team to Martin Whitmarsh. Sam is just an easy scapegoat for critics, even Frank Williams admitted that they put too much of a workload onto him & it would have been better to split his job 2 or 3 ways, just like McLaren have done.
I'd love to see Maldonado to a lights to flag win but I'd also keep an eye on Grosjean & Kimi
