I cant offer any advice cos I'm crap at MIG welding, I just keep giving up and getting the gas torch out.
I definately need a light reactive mask though,
Well done on your determination, I'll watch your progress with interest.

  3. Some of us tried camping with malc but he sloped off and hid in the portaloo all night

We have camped together two weekends Para, the first time I may have inadvertently drank too much Whisky and slept it off on the floor of a portaloo whist lying in my own sick, but who hasn't? The second time was more sedate in the mud of cj where visiting fellow campers was restricted to those without a tracked vehicle!

Good luck with that JD, it has meandered and got a bit emotive at times as my resto threads seem to do. I wouldn't have it any other way though:thumbsup:

  9. Keep going mate, you'll crack it, I know you will

With my first attempts I was always concerned about burning through, once I turned up my welder, went a bit slower, set the welder up right (right wire and tips) it started to all fall into place

It is a balancing act of speed and heat, not burning through, but getting good penetration

Another top bit of advice is to make sure you keep the tip and shroud clean, weld splatter will clogg them up and make things a little harder...it builds up gradually with out you noticing

Keep practicing, never be embarrased and keep the pics comming

You never learn if you don't make mistakes

that's exactly what my welding looked like at first, and that's the same job i tackled too. admittedly i'm going to redo all of the work i did 5 years ago, but i've had plenty of practice on market stall and Dads LT35 inbetween the odd fettle on my bay, practice really does make perfect adequate buddy!

  17. Oh, it's this one!
I must admit when I saw it up for sale I had a quick look at lockup garages and my wallet pocket started to itch a bit... Looks like a great project, and who doesn't love a doka! Went to a festival last year and saw a lovely couple with a canvas on theirs and they had it all kitted out like a tent- lovely.
Good luck with it mate, I shall have to pop by and admire it one day soon :)

Just a quick update. The front is on, the nearside wheel arch is on. The A and B post repairs have been done.the cab floor is 99% done, I have patched in the holes in the rear quarter panel and I have started on the offside sill replacement today. I have taken pictures but will hold back on them until the resto nears completion. If time allows I will have the sills done by Christmas and then I have the engine bay to sort. I am enjoying it now since I turned the welder up and managed to get some penetration.
