Does anyone have a late bay rear wheel bearing kit?

When I replaced mine I took old ones to a respected old style bearing supplier. They could only get one of the two and said the second bearing was a specialist product so they couldn't supply them at all.

  2. Ok I thought Febi were the best available though ?

  3. They can't be that good at £42 for two bearings & two seals, I've seen some bearings of a similar size online for £££ megabucks! I know what you mean though 'best available to us plebs'!!

I got some from JK a few years back. Can’t remember what I paid for them, But they have been fine.

  7. Search is all but over I think, even the bearing suppliers can't get me one!! I have fitted the vetech one for now to get me camping bit think I'll order a couple of sets of the FAG ones from autodoc.com ... works out about £53.00 for two sets which is better than £84 at JK so fill your boots people.
Just awaiting delivery of my replacement hub tomorrow then all done! Happy Camping!

  8. I had some from JK a good while back, and they’ve lasted. Can’t remember what manufacturer.

  9. I'm sure these will be fine that I've fitted with the new hub, they may not have been done right last time. It's mainly that these thing go all the time on our vans & we are left buying from the usual suspects who's quality is suspect & prices inflated... just fed up with it!

  10. When you're pressing them in, apply pressure to the outer race only, or you'll knacker them. Sure you know that ;)

  11. They are in, drifted around the outer race only. The inner was a doddle but the outer needed a good hard tap to get it started then a fair few good knocks to get it home. I gave it a visual check & manual check afterwards though & it's running true & sounding fine.
Just looking at the arrangement I can't see how my worn hub would cause this as it meets the oil seal & not the face of the bearing.... unless as I said earlier it wasn't done correctly last time?

  12. As I recall, my outers needed a good, square smack with a seal driver to get them started. They tend to cock.

I can't see how a worn hub would cause problems with bearings. A mystery.

Put the bearings in the freezer, pour warm water over the bit they go in.;) I learnt that on the YTS...

  14. No me neither! I have probably spent £29 on a replacement hub & 4 days waiting when I didn't need to! Ah well done now..... until next time ;)

  15. Does nothing ....

Makes things go rusty and the bearing needs packing with grease

  16. ‘Tis true. Would work if you had a vat of liquid nitrogen handy, otherwise not.

  17. Think you might be overpacking with grease, too much grease causes churning leading to excess heating of the grease and hydraulic locking causing the bearing to skid.

Worked for me, on many occasions, with different fittings.
