I used to play for the staff team - but only on the understanding that I was rubbish and playing as a favour to them . I was a runner doing 10k and 1/2 marathons at the time and didn't really want to get injured - I was played at right back ( right back behind the goal!!) and was fairly out of it the first half - after an hour I was brilliant as everyone else had run out of steam when I was just getting into my stride.
I could never defend, the Captain ( Ocker) used to shout at me if I went back to defend a corner. He used to call me calamity Cashm.. and because off this we once ended up having a real humdinger of a scrap in the changing rooms after a game. People couldn't stop us, so left us to fight it out. We gave up after knocking lumps out of each other for ten minutes. He stopped calling it me after that and I stopped going back for corners.
