Love and loved football all my life. Lifelong norwich fan. I've played rugby and football and recently American football. Now about to start training for my local side for a bit if fitness but I can't play any more as my body just can't catch up any more. I used to train and play twice a week!

About the only sport I really don't watch is football.....too much money, too much gobbing off at the ref, not enough team.

Also - whilst I am sure like most team sports there are pattern plays - I can't decipher them - it all looks like it hangs off one moment of brilliance, or one person't mistake.

I also laugh my head off when supporters of teams worth hundreds of millions of pounds moan that they aren't good enough - when they play in a league where some clubs whole squad is worth a tenth of theirs, even better then they get scalped.

The only resentment I have is how it crowds into ALL other sports, no matter what the occasion - you'll still get some toss arsed advert at half time for Grimsby V Fleetwood or some other crap that the people actually watching the coverage on at the time don't care about.

  5. Only ever been to one football game in my live, didn't enjoy it, home team scored a own goal, much prefer to watch 'women's beach vollyball'

I played in the best school team our high school ever had. We won the league and cup by a mile for 5 years running. I was a fast winger and scored 157 goals total which seems a lot, but my best mate Ocker Davies scored loads more. I also played for the boys brigade on the wing. I had trials with Wolves, but was deemed too small by the coaches so gave up trying. I tried pub football for a season when I was 18. That was brutal. The old blokes who thought they could play couldn't keep up with my pace so smashed me off the park. I realised then I would end up a cripple if I kept up the pub football, so packed it in.

Years later I helped out with a boy's team for a few years helping my nephew to become a league goalie. The team was well run and did very well locally winning a lot of prestigious local cups etc. When they were 17/18 we had a parent's versus lads game and I got drafted in as a make up the team member. I was 42 and hadn't played since I was 18. we lost 3-2, I scored our two goals. I volleyed one from outside the box and beat my nephew Dan in a one on one. The lads said after that I was the best winger they had played against. I felt ten foot tall. Then Dan deadlegged me as we came off for beating him in the one on one, my legs were like jelly and it hurt for weeks. Never played since.

I've never understood have it got the tag 'the beautiful game' when its full of dives, kicking and shoulder biting.
Was it first said as a joke?

  10. Football is a game of 90 minutes pretending to be hurt.

I played rugby a couple of seasons for Droitwich B when I was in my 30's ( not very well at all ) on the wing. I prefer football. apart from the obvious cheats it is the beautiful game. The skill and dedication is amazing and the women's game is fab.

  12. Not a sports fan, looks too much like hard work so its best not watched or participated in.

F1 is the exception but even losing the love for that over the last couple of years, I blame Sky and camper jam.

Out of all the sports I was forced to do at school hockey was the best as you had a weapon to use to stop the opposition, discus, javelin and shot put was enjoyable as well.

  18. i used to be a big fan when younger , but like alot of other sport, too much money , acting ,oscars etc ruins it imo .

  19. I used to like football but got fed up with the diving, cheating and intimidation of the refs, not to mention the 'quality' of some of the fans. Went up to watch Castleford v Hull KR in 2005 and was amazed with the quality of the sport and behaviour of the fans as they all stood around drinking and chatting together. Top sport.
