Debating on removing my spare wheel from the front of my Westy

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Rich C, Feb 21, 2014.

  1. Sooo as well as thinking of lowering my Westy (which after all your very helpful responses I am not 100% sure if I will now) I am also debating on removing my spare wheel from the front of my Westy for good!

    What's your views people?

    Cheers

    Rich

There you go. There's the 2 options!
It's your bus mate, do what you want!

    Leave it where it is.......sorted.

I posted to provide the other option BS but obviously I should have trusted you to have it all under control.

  7. Your call.
I like the cute face of a bay without a big ugly tyre on it.
Some prefer the rugged utilitarian army surplus look of packing your tires and shovels and jerry cans all over like some sort of great rolling camel.
And that does look good on some buses.
It sure takes up a lot of valuable storage space in a Westy deluxe, fully packed for a weekend trip though.
It just depends on your preferences, priorities and traveling style.

  8. Mine was on the front and I moved it inside. I considered a rear carrier too but opted for inside in the end.

Well I don't actually care because its not my bus we're talking about. Thing is if its already on then it's a lot of faffing about to take it off and make good. Then you've got to decide where to store it inside the bus.

  10. why not stick it on the back like old Devons.

On reflection I think this would be better if the question was "where should I go in the van this weekend?"

A cynic may question a newbie starting 2 threads guaranteed to divide opinion in 2 days.
    Next week:
    What oil should I use?
Should I get a scooby conversion?
How should I insulate my bus?

  13. Shoot, you can get this lot fired up just asking what the proper tire pressure is.
(and let the record show I was quite neutral on the tire thing.)

Or what weight rating to use....
Edit: for the record either C or 102/103
    ;-)
(For @sANDYbAY down there, I am saying this slightly tongue in cheek!)

  16. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

Take it off and see if your front panel is mashed up/mount welded to the front. That should help you decide.
    Now you see it.

  17. Yeah it depends on the front as they usually leave a tyre shaped dent and like zed shows the big bracket, I had one on mine but when she was restored had a new front panel amd I decided without as it looks nicer... completely upto you. It is personal preference I prefer without... do what makes you happy, it's your bus x
