thats a very good point and demonstrates how the stats can be misleading. yes lots of old people in uk are dying from covid but if they were living elsewhere in the world maybe they would be dead already / wouldn't have lived as long in the first place. Its precisely because our health systems are good at prolonging life that we have a large proportion of older folks who are then more likely to have bad outcomes with covid. I wonder how we compare against countries with similar age profiles as us?
Good point, I think that we are regarded as having quite poor public health/ life styles hence the fat man of europe badge of honour
By the way, just found out she also has had her 1st vaccination and still has tested positive. She was told to test after a patient of hers had tested positive.
True but one prerequisite for herd immunity is the elimination of the weaker and more susceptible members of the herd. This leaves the stronger and more resistant members to take the herd forward. The problem with vaccination is that it doesn't remove the susceptible herd members but allows them to survive and breed thus keeping their susceptibility in the gene pool. This means you'll have to keep vaccinating forever and play a continuous game of cat and mouse with a mutating virus. It does mean less people die though.
Generaly its an age thing, your genes dont go down hill when you get older your health does, if we can protect the golden oldies it should have the same effect.
Did you bend down and happen to get jabbed by a nurse slipping on a polished floor - like a Carry On Doctor scene?
UK 29th, behind Switzerland, Italy, Spain, France, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium, Austria, Germany and Slovenia, amongst others. USA 46th. https://www.worldometers.info/demographics/life-expectancy/
The bonus of being a Hospital Radio presenter us that the Queen Elizabeth hospital count us as NHS volunteers so we've been fast tracked for our first jabs. I'm partially thinking there are a lot of other people who need their jab before me but I haven't pushed my way through unlawfully, just lucky. I'm glad to be getting it, just hope I don't get too many side affects as it's an hour before Sunday's show.
A friends wife put her name onto a standby list, after her hubby had his jab.. last night she had a call be here at 6.. and it's available.. she flew there..
Mum and dad are getting theirs at 5:30, today. Huge effort by the government and the people doing it. Best birthday present ever for me today that they are getting it done huge relief tbh. Stay safe and crazy people
Yep my mate had the same thing. His wife is volunteering at a vaccine centre. They have been told quite rightly that it’s absolutely forbidden to throw any vaccine away. So they had a couple of no shows and were told to phone their families and see who wanted it rather than waste it.
Yes, can't remember if you moved away before the new one was built. It's massive. Our radio studios are in the old building, and the vaccine centre is there too.
