Bus has broken down

  1. In your coil thread you said you stripped a bolt and tightened just enough so it held, but could easily let go again. Could it have let go?

    Edit.
I was to slow typing, you thought of that!

Chances are its summert simple as you say. :)

I was gonna be flippent and ask if it is your immobilizer but you probably dont need comments like that right now :)

  7. Lol i said to the wife its been ages since ive broken down in a vehicle

She replied the last time it was in the bus and the engine had blown :-[

  8. If ive got no voltage at the coil with the ignition on can i run a direct lead from the battery to the coil just to get me home?

  9. if the distributer retaining thread has stripped then it not earthing that will be the issue, the whole assembly can lift off the drive and not turn.
have another beer and go out to it in the morning :) oh and get recovery membership too

Do you have a immobiliser Rick ?.

recovery was £27 extra with cherished dude ;)

  12. The dizzy hasent lifted of the drive aussie dude as theres enough tension on it i was just wondering about if the stud and nut had enough tension to make a good earth if it needs earthing to the case

Ive got AA brakedown and recovery but you need to be more than 5 miles from home to use it

No imobiliser but its well imobilised now

the distributor earths through the case, but that shouldnt matter with the electronic ignition as its a magnetic pulse generator not an electrical one like the points, you can run a wire straight from the battery but remember you wont be able to switch off the engine, you could run a lead from your side lights and you your light switch as you ingnition on off. but i would think maybe electronic ignition is the cause, take your spare dizzy with points etc set up before you leave, throw it in direct feed to coil and drive the old girl home, take some tea and a scone then leisurely fix in the comfort of you garden :)

My money's on flooded. It didn't break down as in stop while you were driving.
Cold start - press throttle to floor, let right up and turn key without throttle.
Hot start - turn key and slowly (not too slow) press throttle to the floor then keep it there until it starts.
They do flood quite easy when hot.

  15. Yeah thats my plan sort of davidoft

If ive got a voltage at the coil then ill swap to my old 009 dizzy and points and see if she runs

Its really annoying as i drove her up the road today i was thinking i cant wait to post how much better shes driving with the new dizzy and rebuilt carb

The bus has never driven aswell as it did today it was like a different vehicle then the fecker wont start lol

Parking on an incline shouldn't matter, though it does seem to for some.
Sniff your oil if you think the petrol may have been running through?

Good luck mate - it'll be something silly - wire fallen off the cut-off solenoid?

  20. Ill sniff the dipstick in the morning

If theres fuel in the oil is it the float needle valve i need to be looking at?

If im honest the quality of the parts in the rebuild kit was pants so i mixed and matched the best bits from two carbs and some bits from the rebuild kit

It will be somthing silly in the end im sure
it always is when doing back on the road shakedowns

Checked the fuel cut off solonoid clicks when you discconect and recconect the spade terminal

If i get voltage at the coil tmw and i can see fuel being squirted down the carb when i move the throttle arm then it has to be either the coil or the dizzy that has a fault or connection issue

Its not even cathcing slighly when you crank it no coughs splutters or nothing
