The piston is totaled. Unfortunately, that means lots of bits of metal in the sump, so probably more money on bearings.
Your prayers are requested on behalf of the crank itself :(

    So something else
So that doesnt happen by itself.. there is a root cause that needs fixing if the hole appeared because the piston melted... timing going off, running lean etc..
Otherwise you could have the same thing happen again a few miles down the road.

The crank should be OK unless the piston got holed by jamming aginst a loose valve head like mine was... I still have the S shaped connecting rod..

I'm sorry I was right. When there's a problem it's always one that's lets go first.
Ask your man to check out the timing when he's got it back together - not just set it as he would do anyway, but try and find the actual cause as he sets it up for you. Then you'll know what to keep an eye on.

    She's home again.
#2 piston was burned through on the edge.
Rings were melted in, with bits missing. They were found in the strainer when she was stripped down.
The bearings were in surprisingly good condition considering what happened, but a little bit worn so they got replaced.
The heat from the piston failure baked the sparkplug lead, which broke on removal.
One piston was of a different make to the others.
Oil pressure switch was not only the wrong wrong one with an imperial thread but knackered as well.
The carb setup was a bit of a mess and she was running rich.
She is now running really nicely as I do the running in, going back in about 500 miles for an oil change and check over.
Of course, she's not carrying as much weight now, since my wallet is much lighter :lol:
