Gentlemen, gentlemen, please, I'm blushing

No no I've no experience with m8s - both the m6s for my snail fan are still in situ. Qualified rivnutter - tick :)

I think rivnuts are risky anywhere that's likely to corode. My only experience of rivnuts, oft repeated, is bolt rusted into rivnut, rivnut spinning, no access yo the other side. Nightmare.*

*I might be repeating myself, soz if I'm getting boring but I wouldn't have a rivnut on my van.

  3. That is a concern
I suppose my other option is screws of some description

The chassis is quite thick, just drill and tap it, it's not going to fall off.

  5. What about the front splash pan ?
The replacement front crossmember is quite thin

But it's not a problem if you use stainless rivnuts and bolts. The spinning is caused by duff installation I'd say.

And that as well - obvs ;)

  10. Didn't work on my sidestep bracket :( Out with a bigger hammer this afternoon...

How about a bearing puller with a slide hammer?

  12. Might go for the slide hammer, as I've broken it anyway. Was well lubed up with Copaslip, but the thing has welded itself into the jacking point.

Sounds like a pig of a job. A bit of heat maybe?

  14. It may come to that...

Was it the Jack discussion the other day that set this ball rolling?

  16. No, sir. While the sun’s out and I have a (minimal) level of enthusiasm, I want to clean up everything under the load floor. The step bracket’s been jammed in the jacking point for years. Time it came out...

Still, better to find out now than on the hard shoulder with a flat tyre.
