74... pretty sure it was an 1800 Actually, just checked the invoice for the work I did, and it is an 1800
dumb question time, where is the drain for the later box? i'm gonna change oil in box and final drive but i can't see the drain, do you just remove the plates and get new gaskets? i'm guessing this is the filler on the final drive box? here's the auto box EDIT - I've just seen Paul Weeding 's post - so pans off both to drain? what a crap design..... can you buy new gaskets anywhere? bigrich do you sell them?
Yeah, sumps off to drain... well technically you can undo the dipstick tube to drain the ATF... crap design... wait until you go to pull the diff pan off... there's 2 M8 bolts that are a git to do!! I went with the cork option when I did the 1800 Auto for a customer... it'd already had the rubber one put in and it was leaking like the proverbial!!
Its always good to remove the sump anyway, that way you can give it a good clean out, as theres normaly a few metal shavings etc. hanging around on the bottom
I would not use any sealant on the gasket, just use grease, put a light coat of it over the whole gasket, doing this will keep the gasket leak free for longer and the next time that you take the sump off the gasket won't be stuck
Ricky, you can get thin cork gasket material off ebay... I bought a roll for future jobs!! Like Mr 123 says, no sealant, fit it dry like you would your rocker covers!! And don't over torque the bolts or you distort the holes in the sump and it'll leak!! You can kinda just see that the holes had tweaked out... I also swapped the split spring washers out for some thick penny washers, to spread the load better, and popped some thread loc on the bolts!!
